The superintendent of the tchool was proud of the way the pupils were trained for a fire drill. One day he said: "Now. chil

dren, what would you oo if I told you the building was on fire?" A hundred children gave the answer. One day a lecturer came to visit. The superintendent said: "Now, children, what would you Ic if I told you Dr. Van Dyke was groins to lecture here today?" They all answered: "We would rise promptly, put away our books, then quietly and without disorder file into the street.'' "What is your favorite rcusical Instrument? "I have none just at present," replied Mr. Bibbles, "but I once saw a phonograph that took my fancy mijrhtily." "I thoujrht you detested phonograph music." "I do, but the playing: mechanism had been taken out of this machine and it was used exclusi -ly as a cellaret" Getting out a newspaper is no picnic If we print jokes folks say we are silly: if we don't, they say we have no sense of humor. If we publish original matter they say we lack variety: if we publish things from other papers they say we are too laiy to write. If we don't go to church we are heathens; If we do we are hyprocrites. If we stay in the office we ought to be out rustling news; if we are out rustling news we are not attending to our business at the office. If we wear old clothes we are not solvent; if we wear new clothes they are not paid for. What in thunderation is a poor editor to do, anyhow ? Like as not, some editor will lay wa swiped this from an exEh&JJgr, We did,
