EAST CHICAGO AND THE HARBOR STEEL RECEIVED Six carl oads of ateel aid material to be used In the construction of the new $35,000 East Chicago and Indiana Harbor Water Co. stand-pipe were received In East Chicago by the Pennsylvania railroad company from the Riter-Connelly Steel Co.. of Pittsburgh, yesterday. Three more car loads are reported to be in transit. E. J. Jenkins, manager of the Water Co., announces that the foundation has already been laid for thia work and that the construction on the standpipe is expected to be begun at once. The Riter-Connelly Steel Company which Is also in chargfe of erecting the $1,000,000 gas tank for the Indiana atural Gas company on Forsyth avenue, East Chicago, was also awarded the contract to erect the water Company stand-pipe in the City Hall Park. 13 SHALL FIRES A fire at the 151st street bridge across the Canal near the Superheat er Company, East Chicago, caused slight damages. Hot tar spilled upon the 'bridge, Is believed to have been the cause of the fire. It was extinguished by No. 1 fire engine. HEALTH REPORT The East Chicago Department of Public Health of which Dr. M. A. Given, Is secretary, reports during the month of April only 21 communicable diseases. Convpared with previous months, this number of contagious diseases is considered as small. The results of this report Is worthy of comment, not only to the board of health, but also to the citizens of both ends of the city who have operated with the health authorities in making this clean-up campaign directed fhroug-h the month Just ended a success. The work of making1 a sanitary survey of the East Chicago-Indiana Harbor district was outlined for a two week clean-up, but Secretary Given finding; It impossible to cover the territory In that time extended the period for another two weeks. The comprehensive report prepared "by City Chemist E. A- Driggott. covering Investigations made aver the month of April, when classified, lists house, grocery store, meat market, yard and garbage Inspections, not mentioning the large amount of laboratory work performed by City Chemist Driggott of analyzing blood cultures, milk, water and the communicable disease cultures. In-law, A. L. Carlson, of Tulsa, Ckla., stepped in on her. He is on a business trip to Chicago for his firm, thus giving him the opportunity to spend Sunday with home folks. Mrs. E.
