Her back broken, her spine shattered, physically as helpless as an infant, Hammond's most remarkable woman, bed-ridden for nearly 29 years, today controls a jitney business from the confines of her chamber and for eight years has conducted a real estate business that runs annually into thousands of dollars. She Is Mrs. Charles S. Bunnell. She lives at 531 Michigan avenue. And is her plight pitiable? She does not think so? She resents allusions of that sort. She has a cheerful philosophy. It is contagious. She spreads It with greater plerpiune, 'she aays, than intrinsic consummation of the real estate transactions that bring her into touch with scores of people daily. "Make the most of your opportunities. Nevr be Idle. I always manage to locate the properties in

That fall resulted in tha injuries that have made her an invalid for life. But it did not warp her outlook on life. Patient, forbearing, courageous, she survived the overwhelming sympathies of well-meaning friends and today presents a double paradox. She knows hundreds of telephone numbers. She hears the phone number of a prospect or client Just once then she knows it for good. All of her real estate transactions are made over the phone. She locates

In the leisure lapses when her time is not occupied with problems affecting her Jitney or real estate business, she occupies herself by reading. Or sewing. She says she has pieced 70 quilts, many of silk, besides finishing a whole van load of embroidered linens. Hammond's most remarkable woman is 66 years of age. She looks 25.
