for the best jobs in the Ford industry and that they would be promoted as fast as they demonstrated their fitness. VOGEL.MAX'9 GREAT SPEECH The principal speech of the evening was a chalk talk on "The Master Salesman." by 1L I Vogelman. It was an Intensely interesting presentment of the rudiments of success. "That was the greatest talk on salesmanship I ever heard," P. W. Meyn told Mr. Vogelman at the close of the spee'ih, and. others agreed with Mr. Meyn. Vogelman Is an entertaining speaker. He talks at the rate of two hundred and twenty words a minute. He spoke for an hour and ten minutes last evening, but it fceemed half that time. Vogelman listed the four factors of salesmanship: The Salesman, the Customer, "he Goods and the Sale. He divided the first factor into two parts. Mind Building: and Body Building; and under the head of the Mind wrote "Knowledge." "Feeling." "Will." Then he launched into his locturo on the things that make for success In salesmanship. Some of the succulent exerpts of Mr. Vogelman's talk follow: "Show me the man who Is honest because it pays or because it is the best rollcy and I'll show you a crook." "A man may be as smart as Socrates and as reliable as Abe Lincoln and be out of a Job tonight If he hasn't Terseverance."
"The average man Is one-tenth efficient mentally and one-fourth efficient physically." "There can be no sound thinking in an unsound body." "You're not what you think you are but what you think you are." BOSS YOIRSKLF FIRST "Young man, show me that you are boss of yourself and we'll make you boss of others." "Opportunity la a matter of capacity." "I might give you a Job but I can't hold It for you." "If I was to attempt to sell Woodrow Wilson an automobile I would appeal to his taste; if I had ever tried to sell Roosevelt an auto I would tell him about its great power, and if I endeavored to sell Taft an auto I would talk about its comfort." "A great many men get so close to their business they can't see It." "I'm always sure that a man has has a heart hut I'm not so sure that he has an intellect." "Reliability is the greatest ability." "Confidence is the greatest medium of business." "Personality is the sum total of your mind, body and soul." George Sherman, manager of truck sales for the Ford Company in Chicago, gave a splendid sales talk and the program concluded with a diverying monologue and crayon cartoons by Tom Parlin of Bunnell's sales force. Mr. Parlin Is very clever and his ability fis d car
toonist is enhanced by his witty comments.

MAKING TOUR OF LAKE COUNTY (Continued from page one.)
is scheduled to speak at Gary at 8 o'clock this evening. The heart of his talk last night is contained in the following: Everybody agrees that the country cannot stand much longer, the present unbusinesslike, unjust and unscientific tax Jumble which is preventing prosperity from returning to anybody. All informed persons know that nobody can make much of any profit, bo long a this leach legislation sucks the life blood out of the veins of business. What shall be substituted- for iff Beyond a doubt the only alternative is a general non-cumulative sales tax, so graduated as to be Just, and with a-n exemption of a reasonable amount, say $10,000 on the Bale of farm products. This exemption la not only right, because otherwise the farmer might pay double taxes, but also because of tha desperate plight of those who produce the nations food. The model, the foundations, of this needed tax law have been furnished by Canada and other countries. Its adoption by congress is inevitable; and those who, because of lack of Information or for demagogic purposes, oppose it in campaigns, know that the enactment of it is as certain as sunrise. Finally it is axiomatic and beyond dispute, that the farmer and working man cannot get
relief until husiness is again active
and wholesome. And business cannot possibly recover until this leach legislation kow fastened on the
veins of business Is removed.
While t am against tS whole theory of "bloo legislation." yet it
is wrong, unjust and wicked to at
tack the farmers organizations.
which behind the so-called "Farm
ers Bloc" in congress. Other blocs
without a fraction of the excuse for
existence that the farmers bloo has have been busy in Washington for the last quarter of a century. It is a wonder that the farmers did not act long ago.
Also the truth Is, that much if
not all, legislation helpful to agri
culture and not Injurious to other classes was Inspired and secured by
the farmers organizations. I was
born on a farm, was brought up by and among farm folks. I have had
much to do with farmers all my life,
and I know no class more patient,
reasonable and patriotic than Ameri
can farmers. Give mem smipie
justice and there will be no farmers
bloc, but they will not submit to
be neglected forover.
Could You Sell A Cash Register to A Panhandler? (Continued from page one.)
Ford. It remained for Henry Ford to show that Wall street was not the only place that a man could build a great business. I believe that a man who can pay higher wages than any other man and can pay the duty and still sell his product in foreign countries (presumed to be the mothers of genius, where low wages prevail) and can bring these millions of dollars back to the American worklngman la entitled to the distinction that he lis the greatest business genius In American history." Herbert Rimes, manager of Mr. Bunnell's 'company, acting as toastmaster, told how Mr. Turner financed Bunnell in tho undertaking which has made the former cash register salesman Independently wealthy In eight years. "Mr. Turner told Mr. Bunnell at
the time that if the young' men of
the community realized that the
bankers were watching them, anxious to help those who helped themselves, it would be a better community in which to live." Mr. Bunnell told the young- men of his organization that there was nobody in fheir way except themselves. He said that they had the oooortiinity to Trnar themselves
