How Often Do You Change Oil?
How many miles has the speedometer piled up since you changed oil? , The answers wilj range anywhere from 500 to 5000 miles. ( . Tell an expert auto mechanic you haven't changed oil for five thousand miles and he will gasp for breathe Of course, a machine will run without changing the oil. You can go just so far successfully without changing the oil, but when you send the good old sister to the hospital for repairs ah, then's when the fun begins. Here's the experience of the automobile owner who neglects to change the oil. Takes a notion to drive the car into some repair shop for the o. o. Probably has a cigar protruding from the right hand corner of his intake. carries an expression on his countenance similar to that of a millionaire before the income tax became a law. Walks haughtily up to the chief mechanic. "Look 'er over, kid." Chief docs it to a "T." It's no place for a Sunday school teacher to be when the mechanic hands Mr. Automobile owner a list for repairs that resembles an order for parts for someone going into the automobile business. Mr. Automobile owner becomes conscious of the fact that he had neglected changing oil. one of the most essential things in driving an automobile.
He leaves the repair shop a sadder but wiser man. Cigar has disappeared in the meantime. He accidentally swallowed it when he read the sum total cf the repairs $150.00. Mechanic takes pity on Mr. Automobile owner and with the list for repairs gives the poor fellow some advice. Among the things said, were these: After you run so long carbon collects in the crank case. This miexs with the gas and oil and -forms more carbon. This mixture corrodes the cylinders, wrist pins, piston and rings. The longer you neglect it the worse things get. Sooner or later the cylinders become scored. In most cases the affected parts have to be taken out and replaced. When it becomes n;cessary to
! rebore cylinders, put in new pistons. ' etc., somebody's going to pay. This
could have been avoided with proper care. By changing oil as required you are practically assured easy running, more power and little trouble as long as, the rest of your car holds together. The average motorist changes oil every two thousand miles. If you are one of them, notice Y f v watery and black your oil appears next time' you drain it out. That dark fluid will cause you, as a motorist, more grief than you perhaps ever imagined.
N ickel Brothers Making Good
Some people seem to just sort o" glide along throught the world and pick off the petunias as they glide, here and there and thither and thither. Some even have petunias thrown at "em. There are two boys in Hammond, however, that haven't gotteq where they are today by merely gliding or sliding. They have slid some, but in so doing no doubt they took on a few splinters, because these lads have really worked, and it is by long hours, and conscientious effort that Nickel Brothers enjoy the splendid business they are. now receiving. They came to Hammond from a little town in Illinois, someone said Chicago yes, Chicago's the place. - They hoped to make good in Hammond by selling Exide batteries and Exide service. They had a
good battery no one disputed that. But some doubted they would be able to make a real honest-to-goodness business of selling Exides in Hammond, for there were already good batteries being sold here. But these boys have plodded steadily along until today they are rated as among the first class battery stations of this region, enjoying a good healthy business. As evidence of their good faith in Hammond they invested in property with the purpose in view of making the city their permanent home. Both the Nickels are young men of character who believe immensely in what they are doing affording the very best service possible and a remark they have often made is this: "We hope to make the Fl;de service as high in quality as Exide batteries."
How's This Stunt For a Real Thrill?
Have you ever had a thrill to do something real disastrous? There are people in the world perfectly harmless, you know wJo sometimes want to make a real fuss. Whether they crave notoriety or excitement, no one knows not even a nerve specialist. Many of these adventurers or adventuresses' or "ettes" are perfectly good at heart but that "old cave stuff occasionally is revived
and law goodness, watch out. To such here's a suggestion: Borrow one of those good old fashioned surries, tie a bale of hay on the rear end and start down Michigan avenue. Turn on Randolph, go south on State and west jon Madison to Michigan again. The hay is to keep you from getting bumped in the rear. If this doesn't afford the desired thrill wheel the baby over same ground.

Two large subterranean parkins garages for automobiles have been proposed in New York city under Central Park and Errant Pari. It is said the garages would care for 34,000 cars near the shopping and theatrical district.
Because the automobile thief first changes the engine number to destroy identity of the car, the Society of Automotive Engineers have recommended that the engine identification number be placed near the top of the right liand side of the crankcase proper in a position in which it can be read easily. The numbers would be between two vertical ribs or beads one-quarter inch wide, one-eighth inch high, three inches long and three inches ( apart, the surface of the casting 'between the ribs to be left rough as cast and un fainted even on the finished car.
