"The only way to impress law violators with the majesty of the law is to let them taste the punishment for violation of those laws." With that statement Judsfe Henry Cleveland prefaced the sentence he passed upon Tommy Tague who plead guilty to charges of violating th state prohibition laws after detectives found half a pint of moonshine in the place Tague operates at r9 State street. Scores of Taguc'j friends In the court room this morning, were visibly shocked as Judge Cleveland sentenced the young man to serve 35 days on the state penal farm and to -pay a fine of $130. Tague's partner, James Johnson, arrested at the same time and under the same conditions as enmeshed Tague in the toils of the law, was ordered discharged by the court. Detectives intimated that Tague assumed the whole of the blame for the occurence that may result in fixing to him the title of "jail-bird'' 'in order to shield others, not less culpable, and well known among the sporting element of Hammond and West Hammond. Attorney Metz representing Tague says he'il file an appeal to the Criminal court. Tague was released under bonds of $1,000 pending a hearing on the appeal set for Monday morning in the city court. Two May street residents report property louses to police.

At 536 May etreet lives T K. Keene, who tells police, boys stole a blanket and other articles from his garage. Three boys are arrested by detectives. They tell about hiding the blanket in Maywood park It's recovered. Disposition of boys undetermined. CITY HALL City Annual. This contains reports of various city departmen ts. It's gotten out under the direction of tho city controller. Questioned about it he doesn't know when it'll be ready. The next thing to do will l: to ask his assistant. Maybe she'll know. Who puts up the street signs warn ing motorists of proximity of the schools? There's a darb of an example of administration zeal and thoroughness 1n erection of the south, end s'gn, on Hohrnan street warning motorists about Washington school. It's erected on the west side of the street. North bound motorists miss it altogether. But it's a pretty sign. i
New volume of city ordinances. There's a rumor about city hail that the administration contemplates compiling a new code. The last compilation was issued in 190?. In the past thirteen years, Hammond city councils; have passed many ordinances. Oil j es, many, Herbert, many. However, there's only one thing to think about In this what will it cost? They might get around that problem, suggests one bright mind, by putting out a volume containing advertisements. By the way. Is tre street commissioner on a vacation? Many south side motorists would like to know. Hohrnan street will soon be as bad as Michigan avenue, they say, if the honey-comb holes aren't repaired "By heck," said one of these fellows whose head punctured a hole in the top of his car as the machine bounced out of a Hohrnan street rut, "By heck, I wish the Mayorwould Ijve on this street a little
