GREATEST POWER TEST IS COIHG
British Officials Say They Are Not Over Optimistic By DAVID M. CHUBCH t STAFF CORRESPONDENT I. N. SERVICE) LONDON, March 31. lnc gru,ie-t test of power that the Dublin and Belfast governments will have undergone yet confronted them today In the enforcement of the Irith peace agreement signed lure last night by representatives cf North and South Ireland and the British government. British officials, while, hopeful that the agreement vould restore Irish unity, were not over-optmru-tic. After attaching his signature to the document, Michael Collins, of the Irish provisional government said that it would surely restore Irish tranquility If It were carried out in the same spirit In which it was signed. The agreement was favorably received by the prc.?3. The Times called it "3. beacon guiding Irisnmen from the tempests of centuries into a safe haven of vnited brotherhood." The chief features cf the agreement are: 1. Protection of the Catholic residents of Northern Ireland. 2. Irish republican army to cease its activities on the Lister border. 3. Mixed police force to be formed in Ulster, composed of half Catholics and half Protestants. 4. Another conference on Irish unity to be held later , . "Thank God for thst." exclaimed Sir Hamar Greenwood, chief secretary for Ireland, when he heard that the agreement was signed. Uis words seemed to sum up the sentiment rf the whole rtati'n. Prlia-
