Taxi Driver Says Burnham Was Raided; Evidently It Wasn't

A taxi-cab dri-ver stopped in at the Hammond police station shortly before midnight last night and said that four resorts In Burnham had been raided. r ' "They arrested twenty-one girls, four housemaids and two bar-tenders at' the Speedway Inn," he declared. - A reporter called the State's Attorney office and the sheriff's office in Chicago today and was told that there had been no raids from either place. The federal prohibition office answered likewise. Telephone calls to various places in Burnham only deepened th mystery.

PRINCETON WINS BASKET TITLE, BEATING PENN. PRINCETON. X. J., March C9. Princeton last night won the basketball championship of the Intercollegiate league by defeating the University of Pennsylvania, CS to 23. In the playoff for the title. Each team won eight and lost two games In the regular season. The Tigers' victory was due to spectacular floor work, the rangy Princeton players breaking up the passing game that had given Pennsylvania four consecutive championships. Pennsylvania scored only i.jjr field goals to nine for Prince-ton, and was always trailing. The improvement in Pennsylvania's foul goal shooting over the recent game with Frincton was offset by the Tigers' close guarding.

Mrs. Mary Haper was shot and perhaps fatally wounded and an unideneified man was seriously wounded today when neorge Kamel, a porter, staged a shooting affray in a North side bakery. After shooting up the .bakery, Kamel shot and seriously wounded himself. Anger over his discharge several days ago, is believed to have led Kamel to do the shooting. Mrs. Haper and the man were customers in the bakery.
