Talmage Sr., escaped through another office. United States Commissioner has heoom-e apprehensive about the failure, of the marshal to find the elder Talmage. If the promoter of the N'atlonal Organization Company, whose offl'cers have ben Indicted by a federal grand Jury. Is not caught within the next twenty-four hours, (he U. S. Commissioner will begin talking right out loud about the tlowness of the marshal's office. Is it possible, he wants to know.

If the marshal is bo accomodating that he has not made any vigorous effort to find C. E. Talmage until the later has arranged frail. V1I, wel. let us hope not, the U. S. Commissioner opines. The bench warrants for the Talm&gcs were Issued after Judge Carpenter learned that Mrs. Talmage, wife of the senior Talmage. had not confined t herself to the facts when she made affidavit that she was the fee simple owner of the Cumberland Country Club in lake county.

which she scheduled as bail for her

husband and soji. The court was told that there was serious doubt as to whether she had any equity in the clJb. The Talmasres, together with J. and pupils of the Irving. Wallace, Haywood, Wallace and Central schools and to many Individuals. The plan and prlaciple of the Historical Society in respect to our soldier citizens in an Honor Roll for all soldier citizens of all -wars, supreme honor for the wounded and immortalization for the dead. The Honor Roll Is free to ail the soldiers, name and service record of the wounded and dead are free and will be published in the Bulletin as they will, also, ibe a part of the "Hammond Military and Memorial History," a great work now

In preparation for publication. The I

Society, also proposes a memorial j group picture of the dead and the j wounded to be placed in the charge 1 of the city that it may be preserved in the centuries to come. . The friends of the gold and silver star heroes are asked to contribute, if

possible, a cabinet !zed photograph. Hammond should not be remiss in this matrer of remembering her soldier boys. At the present time there Is no such a thing as a complete record, as In all historic justice, there should be. It Is not at all likely that an effort will ever (be again made to complete such a record. Much depends upon the men themselves. Now Is the time if ever. Do not fail to hand in your names. Many names have been presented but it will not be entirely satisfactory without the entire number. The Historical Society must have the names of the wounded and dead In order that their names and service records be written. Please communicate your name and street address, by mail or telephone to the chief of the i egi.stration board of

the Society and he will arrange to

see you. Krlo lyund, formerly of the 6th U. S. Engineers, 3rd Division, A. E. P. Chief of the Registration Board of the Hammond Historical Society. Telephone 919-M, 31 Mason street. Hammond.

scene with a helpless, sad expres- i eion. The chief proceeded to smash ( everything in- sight, and then had the various coils and kettles loaded , on a truck to be conveyed to head- j quarters. j "Sav. chief, wait a minute," said 1

the negro, as- the auto was about to depart. "I'll give you ten bucks for that truckload of junk." "Why?" asked the officer, jocosely. "Are vou figuring on starting a still, too?" "Is'aw, boss," replied the negro. "I'm aimin' to enlarge mine." '

The bus was starting in the rain, when the conductor put his head

inside and inquired: "Will any , gentleman get outside to oblige a ilady?" t "She can sit on my knees if she ' likes," said a passenger jocularly. I To his surprise, a buxom woman bounced in and accepted his offer, i After a time the man asked where : she was going. On hearing her destination he exclaimed: "Bless my soul! That's my p hmise!"

"Yes," she said, blushing. "I'm 1
