Rick poured, and the table was dainty with exquisite silver and tea things. City needs were informally discussed and a committee appointed to place before the board ot fafety the request for a court matron nd a police matron, inasmuch as there Is a state law requiring cities of this size to have the above named officers. The women of Hammcnd feel it is their duty as citizens to try to secure these appointments. A nice crowd was In attendance and after the business of the meeting was transacted, the ladles were delightfully entertained by readinga given by Miss Lowery and Master Harry Young. The members of the F. E. G. Club enjoyed a theatre party last evening, when they saw Francine Larrimore 'n "Nice people" at the Cort. The girls had as their guests Miss Lillian Sass of Hammond and Miss Shirley Texter of Chicago. Mrs. Arthur Hilbrick charmingly entertained the young ladies of the Kdone Club last evening ip her home on Sibley strejt. Five hundred was played at throe tables and the awards were given to Miss Maude Burke and Miss Margaret Austgen. The hostess served a daintily appointed course luncheon to her twelve guests, and the club will be entertainei in two weeka by Miss Lotta Illldebrandt. At a meeting held on Wednesday night, the Security Benefit Association Council 2i52 elected the following officers to occupy offices the remainder of the year: vice president, Charles Wyburn; prelate, Iva Wood; conductress, Samo Bonnott; secretary, Claude Pratt; financier, Fred Robenhorst Jr., and trustee Richard Pratt. District Manager Thomas Burns wants the cltltens of Hammond to watch this council grow. During a pleasant social hour nice refreshments were served and a good time enjoyed. Meetings are held every Wednesday evening, when guests are cordially imlted.

Wednesday afternoon from the First Congregational church of Whiting. The services were conducted by the Masonic lodge of Whiting and were largely attended by lodge and labor friends from all parts of the county. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery at Hammond.

BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of Hammond, Indiana, that It shall be unlawful for any. firm, person or corporation, or agent or employe. of any fim, person or corporation, owning or operating a taxicab or jitney bus within the City of Hammond, Indiana, to cross over any railroad crossing upon which an run engines, cars or trains of cars, daily in the City of Hamm nd, without first having brought said jitney, bus, or taxicab or other vehicle to a fuil stop and to look and listen for approaching trains. SECTION 2. Any person, firm or corporation or agent or employe of any peson, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be fined not less than Five Dollars nor more than tTfty Pollars upon conviction.
