The Chamber of Commerce had a rousing meeting at the American LegIon rooms on Tuesday night and plans were formed whereby It is now up to the people of Crown Point whether we haive the much needed Community House or not. Under the War Memorial act passed during the last legislature, the City Council have the power upon the recommendation of the

mayor to pass an ordinance by a ma-j Jorlty vote of the council to approprl-J ate money for World War Memorial, j provided that the sums appropriated I

shall not exceed 6-10 of one per cent, of the taxable property of the city, to be determined by the last assessment for the state, county and city -taxes, previous thereto, the fund so appropriated shall ibe used for such memorial. Much enthusiasm was shown to the above project and it now looks mighty faivorable. It is estimated that about J25.000 can be collected In the above manner which means that if the people of this city want a Community House they can have one. Judge Martin Smith, Mayor Edward C. Glover, John Claussen, Edwin Knight and Deputy Prosecutor W. O. Thomas, were among the enthuslastls boosters for a Community House at last night's meeting. The Chamber of Commerce will also assist County Auditor Geo. M. Foland, superintendent of the Fair Ground in the establishment of a tourist camp to be maintained there possi'bly the coming summer. If the project Is put over a brick oven will

be built and tourists traveling through the country may stop there and get their meal anil spend the night. Several other plans for the betterment of the city were discussed at last night's meeting which was full of pep and enthusiasm. A dainty lunch was served by the American Legion. Charles Daugherty, Jr., has been confined to his home the past week with a very severe cold. The Crown Point schools will be

closed on Friday on account of the

Basketball tournament at Valparaiso. The teachers in the various departments will visit the Gary schools on that day. Misses Patton, living on Pettibone

avenue were tendered a surprise party
