The government's first move to prevent a nationwide coal strike on April 1 the callins: of a conference between coal operators and miners will be taken within a day or two. It was learned of -flclally at the department of labor tolay. Secretary of Labor Davis -will call t the attention of the two groups In the present controversy that the (bituminous wage award of 1920 stipulated that an Interstate Joint conference be held prior to April 1, 1S22, ,to discuss any differences that may exist between the employers and the workers. Inasmuch as there Is no super-organization existing among- the operators, it is prolable that Secretary Daivla will informally call the attention of individual operators to the existing' pact fietw-een tSfem. Officials today were confldene that U.ere would be little difficulty in brinsirr about a conference between the miners and operators. It waa said In s-ome Quarters that as a result of this conference Individual agreements protuoly would be entered Into in the yarl"in states to avert the general walkout scheduled for April 1.

Three persons were burned to death when an oil stove exploded and a large rooming house was destroyed by fire today. There were twenty people In the house at the time. A woman jumped from- the second story and sustained a broken arm.

Between the hours of 10:30 o'cilock last night and 2 this mornlne, a Ford truck containing more than M.000 worth of clothing, was stolen from the private garage of Loui Boumwhol, 412 One Hundred and Nineteenth street. Whiting. According to the owner, Mr. Bournwhol of the truck and clothing, there was no license on the truck. The only Identifying feature of this stolen Ford truck is the name of "Louis Boumwhol" appearing on the Hide of the car In large Roman letters. The recovery of the stolen car was expected a number of times today, when calls1 came Into tho Whiting police station that an unidentified Ford truck was standing In some lone spot, ' but at this writing all reports to this effort have proved false.

Malpractice In Superior Court Suit. Dr. Joseph Plamondsteln, West Hammond physician, was made defendant in a damage jpuit filed in the superior court at Hammond today by Katherine Haehcel. 357 Sheffield ave.. Hammond. Mrs Haehnel says that last June she started taking treatment from Pr. Dlamondstein for an ailment of the throat
and tcnsils. For $200 she says the physician undertook to cure her of the .dis
ease which he said was tonslitls. The treatment continued 'rittl September 6 when an operation for the removal of the tonsils was advised. It was rerformed. Mrs. Haehnel charges that the physician in attempting to cut and remove the tonsils, also cut hr palate and severed tissues and nerves
which should not have been affected by
the surgery. he alleges she could not
sreak audibly for about four months and
that she was nick in bed six weeks lolloping the operation. She asks for $5,000 damages. Sheerer A White are her attorneys.
