IIG FIVE BEATS EAST "Irt one. of the fastest professional basketball jimes played in tbe Calumet region, the Kast Chicago Club team were defeated last night by the P. J. Cirri Big- Chicago Five with a score of 35 to 19. The Chicago team admitted that it was the hardest and closest game they had evtr played. Ono of the vi3itins players said: "If the game had lasted another tive minutes. I have my doubls il" could have nou." This boy told the truth for in the lawt two miuutea of the came, basket at'ter buslsct was cred by the Club team from any portion on the JK-or 'an J for a while it looked as though the h ime boys m;sht tio tho score. Both tcajns ;-ut up a jood defer.3ii-y! game. Very few baskets were made from a close position. From the extreme right and left of center were considered good locations to throw. The marksmanship of the visiting team, however, was far superior of tho local boys throwing. A veteran team of professional, selected from every team in the Chicago district, composed the Carr's Uig Five linkup. -A team with a national reputation snd with a world record in basketoa;? playing. In the first half of the gime, it was evident that a few of the younger sot of the iJast Chicago team were unnerved. The inexperience of meetirir up with veteran players -for the time being had placed distrurt in tin it ability and the Club lost ont in early scoring. At the end of this' half the score stood 9 to 4, in favoi- of Cuicago. Having gained confidence, the Club buckled down to buineis in the la.st half. TVith a few fresh rnember5 In the lineup, the boys appeared primed to win. The Chicago team changed their tartic? by trying to tire out the local boys by posting the ball across the floor Instead of playing for the basket. This stunt did ret bother the home boys much and eoon lost its flavor among the visitors. The advantage gained in tho first half by tho Chicago team was still retained by them. "While the Big Five outweighed the Club players by 20 pounds to the man, tho little fellows did not hesitate to tyccel with the big- fellows to the en3. It is not fair to discriminate in the Club's players, they all did exceptional in thii game. The box score: With Marq.ua rdt, former Northwestern star, -sinking five Celd gods, the Chicago P.:g Five defeated the Ka.t Chicago quintet. 25 to 19, at Kaft Chicago last night. Coach I'at McShane's s-rappy oa-,ket tossing outtit from down Kast Chicagoway wielded a two-ply victory last Monday right over the powerful Hammond Wanner Mailables. The scene of action was staged before a fair sized crowd in the pmail but beautiful gymnasium of the Hammond Presbyterian church. The firirt arg-urnent, which was cut fifteen minutes short, was a cinch for tho Dodger lightweights. They bumped off the Malleable hr.nties for a 15 to 8 win. Duffy, diminutive -art.iin of the Dodger clan, was th outstanding Btar of the show. He sunk in 12 of the 19 markers gErr".reil by his t'am. All honor for the MaV.ea.Mes goes to Trump who registered every point his team yecured. OTie second game was a slam-bang affair with the Dodgers pulling off the unexpected in ;v highly mclo-dramc tic fashion. Spudick and Gads-irk of the Ma'.ieabk.s opened hostilities with a tang. Eefore the Dodgers coold even get their first breath this pair of basket sharks succeeded in piling up a comfortable leaI amid the .wild cheering of their admirers. At the end of the first half it looked like an inevitable de-feat for the Fast Chicago five with a la to 7 margin tariig et them. A little rest and some sound. advte by Coach Pat ?deShane made a world of difference in the morale of the Dodgers when they came out for the second half. They immediately formed a live ma.n defense. and continually DOsjq L'-i Because our sfejrh. If.

Oocati'Tially Duffy ur Whaieri of the Dodgers broke away to slip a. marker thru the iron ring, but the,y never permitted the "Warmers to get an ea-sy shot at the basket. Thi3 tight defense worked like a charm. It slowly broke up the confidence of the MaJleables and caused them to become reckless and eratic in order to hold their lead. In spite of this, the mercury in the T"-dgers' point-thermometer slowly began to rise to the level of the Malleal.is, and the fsrvor o' the large delegation of Ka.t Chicago fannery also br-an to wax warmer. It waxed from warmer to hoter as the Dodgers kept ringing cag'-r after eager, until it Anally turned rabid wh-n Whalen registered a sinker that gave his team the edge . Maddend by the v. ii-i cheering of the spectators tnd with only two tninuUs more to play, the two teiams surged over the court at a furious clip, the

one frantically striving to regain a lead slowly slipping away from them and the ether as frantically determined to retain it. Vhen the timekeeper's final whistle mero.!fu!!j' blew the two teams slowly unscrambled themselves from a clawinrr, fighting, panting mess totally exhausted and with the Dodgers sitting on the large c-nd o-f a 26 to 20 score.
