Maybe a burglar, a murder or a' suicide thought many who peered from their windows. The police gave the occupants of the flat a surprise party. They found one of the inmates retired for the night with one of the guests; another worean who was amusing another guest In the parlor while the landlady and landlord, Sam and Helen Boebele, who were booked as keepers of the house were awaiting for other arrivals. Four others. Bessie Hofer and Dorothy Jacobs, charged with prostitution and Walter "Walker and Herman F.etz, .charged with associating .were bundled into the patrol wagon and hauled to the police station. Trials were continued in the Gary police court this morning. BesKie Hofer who la a Chicago woman, 16 years old. married and mother of a; three year old child, told the police that she has been working as a prostitute for the past year. "At a north side cabaret in Chicago several weks ago, I learned from a frlond of mine that the Bobele's were going to open up "a place in Gary and was asked to come out and work for them, which I did a week ago," the Hofer woman told the police. The other woman also came to Gary from Chicago. They both gave the police some important information. Acting through the orders of Mayor H -O .Johnson who has made good his inaugural oath to rid the city of moon shiners and bootleggers the police are also going to concentrate their efforts against houses of ill fame and other Vice.
