Women Porters in London Market. In the famous Covent Garden flower market in Tendon, the work of carrying is done largely by women porters. A somewhat odd recognition of their work is received annually by these flower porters in the shape of a shawl and two aprons each, a gift from the duchess of Bedford. Peculiar Chinese Rice. Ang-khak,.or red rice, used in China for coloring food products, owes its color to a species of mold which IH cultivated with the rice by special treatment. The red rice is reduced to fine, soft, red powder before used.
