IS CALLED OFF Lateness Sn making the announcement Is blamed for tha failure of the meeting which was to be held last ivenlng in the Hammond Chamber of Commerce rooms to consider the adoption of the Chicago plan for handling the building- situation. A committee representing Hammond, East Chicago and Whiting had been appointed to have charge of the matter. Arrangements had b?en made for bringing "William Schlake, president ef the Illinois Brick Co., Ex-Senator William McKSnley of Chicago and two other prominent speakers to explain the Chicago plan. Only a handful of citizens, most of them members of the committee, appeared at the Chamber of Commerce roorgs at the time appointed. , It was decided to call oft the meeting and arrange J. or one at a later date.

Hoosier State Association . announces it is co-operating with Secretary of State Jackson in this education al work "because the-Automobile Association is promarily Interested. In savr ing lives and averting accidents on the highways It is declared there is "no greater cause for accidents, some . of which result fatally, than blinding headlights. Under the new regulations the blinding light from auto or truck or motorcycle lamps may virfcually be eliminated. Local police officials are advised to become familiar with the. requirement

of tha new regulation. The secretary of state lias plenty of copies of the

pamphlets covering the new regulations

and will be glad to mail them to anyone one request. It is provable, however, that virtually every service station man or accessory dealer in Hammgnd and other towns of this county, already havo these pamphlets. The

secretary of state urges that owners of passenger cars, trucks and motorcycles

visit their dtaief or service sta.ioa

once and obtain approved devices and

see that they are properly adjusted.

In this connection' It may be stated that T. J. Taylor, technical en.ner for the secretary of state, after' thor

ough tests, has approved a number of

aevices. The list will - be added to

later, It ia stated, as not all manufact urers have as yet submitted their de vices for the state laboratory tests. "

The present - approved .-list includes

the following lenses or deflecting de

Violet Ray, new type; National Lens, Pattersonj, Lena, Osgood Lens, "Benrtr

It Is understood 4hat many local-cars

are already equipped with various len

ses of a diffusing type. These, it Is declared, will not pass the requirem nts of the new regulations. Many lenses

that were regular equipment on carl

from the factory will not meet the requirements. It is particularly, noted

that the Liberty, TJ'Pe D and MacBeth

Type D are specified and the Viojet Ray

new style. Service stations tn the city and coun

ty desiring to act as "authorised Hgtit

service stations for the secretary of state may secure such ptniiissicn. by writing to Secretary Ed. Jack9on, it is announced, and complying with his requirements for service stations. ''The time has come," declares the automobile association, "to. get. right, on the light matter and to do this everyone must do his part promptly..
