At their regular meeting at tho city hall in Gary yesterday the Board of Works adopted confirmatory resolutions for the opening of the Indiana Dunes highway, which when completed, will form the Ehortest possible route between Michigan City and Chicago via Gary, according to recent surveys. The highway will run almost in an airline from Gary to Michigan City and will be in the neighborhood of 2o miles long. It will be constructed to a width of 80 feet and will cost In the neighborhood of a million dollars. The proposed highway has been surveyed by engineers of the State Highway Commission which Is planing to advertise for bids during the coming winter months. The action of the board not only confirms, the opening of the Dunes Highway from the old town of Miller to the Porter county line, but also confirms the opening of the diagonal road which is to parallel the Pennsylvania tracks from Clark station to the IlufTington cement plant and Guthrie avenue in Indiana Harbor.
