The Rosette of Officer of Public Instruction, a distinction which France" reserves only for artists, literary rncn, nnd scholars, has just been bestowed upon Mrs. George Montgomery Tuttle of New York, president of the American Committee of the Fontainebleau School of Music. The decoration was presented by the DIrecteur des Beaux Arts to Mrs. Tuttle at the conclusion of the first summer music school ever held for American in the Fontainebleau Palace. The ceremonies attendant to the presentation of the medal took place in September. Eignty-five musicians of high rank were recommended by the governors of '.heir states to the American Committee for study in this conservatory under the direction of Mrs. Tuttle. The French Government lias announced that provision -will be made for one hundred students at the Fontainebleau Palace next summer.
