A very successful dancinfr party was given by the Hermits Club on Friday evening: at the Knights of Columbus ha!!. About fifty couples were !n attendance and all reported a most enjoyable evening. Excellent music was furnished by Sterling's orchestra, and as a feature of the dance two turkeys and a five pound box of candy were raffled off by the club. The winners of the turkeys were Miss Mandy Purnlck of Gibson and Mrs. F. L. Lauyer of Wilcox avenue, and th candy was won by Misi Helen Orr of Elizabeth street. Mrs. E. J. Fraser and son Ogden or Toledo. O.. spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. J. Fulliam Smith of Conkey avenue. The Erasers were former residents of Hammond. Mrs. Joseph Goyke. Mrs. Clem Goyke and daughter Mis Alice Marie have gone to Minnesota where they will spend Thanksgiving with relatives.
The literature department of thi Hammond Woman's Club will meet with Mrs. John 1. Smaller. 91 Detroit street, tomorrow afternoon at half past two o'clock. The afternoon's study will be Shakespeare and the leader will be Miss Blanche Howell. Music is in charge of Mrs. J. C. Tar-reft.
Mrs. A- Spibak entertained at birthday surprise party in honor of her husband's birthday on Saturday evening at her home on S.ibley .street. Mr. Spibak was presented with a beautiful mahogany smoker, after which the guests enjoyed music, games and dancing. In the games, Mrs. .1. J Smith was awarded first prize arid Mr. Sweeney v. .in fiivra. the consolation. A prettily appointed four-course luncheon was nerved thirty-eight guests, after -which the "Can or Can't We Club" ws organized, of which Mr. Sweeney was made president.
Mr". Sarah Carter, of Kewannn. Ind.. who has been the house guest of her daughter, Mrs. W. O. Lamborn. of Hyde Park, for the past few weeks, returned to b,er home yesterday, accompanied ?y her son, Mir. Will Carter, of Iloehostr. Mrs. Carter was quite ill during her stay here, but was sufficiently recoverea to be removed to her borne.
