Frank Callahan and the Independent ticket delivered a crushing defeat to hyphenated-Americanism at East Chicago: R. O. Johnson swept to victory on the tid.j of republicanism in Gary; Walter S.-hrago nosed out his youthful and vigorous rival at Whiting, and Dan Frown stood at Armejjeddon and won his battle for trood government in Hammond. There is much to be thankful for thii Thanksgiving. Callahan won by 1,112; Johnson by 2,5iO; Pchrage by 50. and Erown by 630. Clary's total vote was 13,163; East Ohieag'o. 7.302; Hammond, 10.SS0, and Whitintr, 2,330. In Gary the Johnson victory was a clean sweep with the exception of the Ambridtre ward where the democrats elected an alderman. Curtis carried five north side, precincts, but lost his own. Johnson's victory in Gary gives tho city one of the best republican organizations it has ever had. The young men's republican club which assisted materially in Johnson's election will be of the greatest value to the county. CREDIT DUE CLEVELAND. Frowna victory in Hammond alsn perfected a republican organization which Clyde Cleveland, city chairman, built for the presidential election Cleveland, this time, brought all factions of the republican party together and harmonized the organization to an extent that it Is by far the best G. One bet of $23,000 and other bets aggregating twice that amount were wagered on the outcome of the election in Hammond. Although the mayoralty races wero the most hotly contested that Hammond, East Chicago and Whiting hava known, and f-trong feel in ff swayed the people of Gary, the election was remarkable for the order at the polls. Not an arrest was made in any of the cities in connection with the election. The influence of the women is he'ieied to be responsible for the orderly voting.
