Rally At East Chicago Masonic Temple Tonight

BT THE POLITICAL REPORTER. Whitlngr offers the only even money bet In the municipal campaigns of the

cities of -the Lake county industrial district. Although 6chrage. republican, has a shade the bent of the race In the oil city. Smith, democrat, is running so close that it would be ridiculous to offer odds. Johnson, republican. Is a 8 to 2 bet with Curtis, democrat, on the short end at Gary. Callahan, Independent, has practically a 2 to 1 lead on Reppa. nd money offered at 8 to 2 and 5 to 4 is being refused in East Chicago. Brown, republican, looks more than ever like a sure-thing In Hammond to. day. following the nnal democrat

rallies last night which lacked the pep that Is needed to put Simon, democrat, over. Brown money Is not being covered by Simon supporters who claim they are waiting for odds. Brown is a 6 to 4 bet. In Gary the county republican organization must be given credit for the material aid it has given the republican candidate for mayor. CALIAHAS LANDSLIDE. The republican majorities in Gary and Hammond will be even larger

than heretofore predicted, while- Calla

han's election is a virtual landslide. East Chicago has eclipsed all of the other sisters in the sensational aspects of the campaign. The latest development Is J. K. Reppa's campaign In the underworld which he promised, earlier in the campaign, to put out of commission.

Reppa has carried water on both

shoulders throughout his campaign.

Claiming that he Is the candidate of

the respectable people of the Twin

Cities and that he did not want the

support of the others. He na Tield

meetings sub-rosa in the notorious

David Brecheen house of ill-fame on

Block avenue and an equally notorious resort on 150th street, this week

making speeches and soliciting the

votes of the proprietors and inmates. City Judge Cohen who vent with Reppa to the Brecheen resort knew

what the place was because it has

been in his court repeatedly the past few months. Reppa knew the charac

ter of the place on 150th street where he held a meeting Wednesday. Two weeks ago he campaigned at the same place and left when two drunken women got into a fight. Reppa's campaign in the underworld is not being tolfl as an eleventh hour story but it comes into print at this time because it is a new development. RBPPA'S BOOMERANG. Reppa has charged from the platform and In his official organ that the underworld Is tor Callahan. The Times

has shown that "Big Bill" Subtovlch. the most arrested liquor law violator and resort keeper In East Chicago, Is one of Reppa's active campaigners. Iast night at Reppa's meeting In Krupa hall, the crowd was entertained by a number of the women who are employed as entertainers La "Big BiH's" all-night resort. One thing can be said for "Big Bin." He Is not ungrateful. J. IC Reppa through a third party loaned the money to build his new resort and personally Inspected i while In process of construction. If Reppa didn't have sense enough to know what use the place was to be put to theo he hasn't sense enough to b mayor. Reppa's business relations with "Big Bill' Subtovlch make it easier to understand why Bill was kind enough, to spare his entertainers last night to prepare the crowd at Krupa,' hall for Reppa's speech. REPPA BACKS WICKET. The Times has also shown that the ticket steal whereby Callahan was deprived of the name and emblem of the Citizens' party was put over by the Keppa party through lit members on the election bbard. There is new evldenea today that Ed.

Wickey, now running for mayor on ilie

Citizens' ticket, is an Instrument of Reppa. Ir. R. P. Hale, Reppa's campaign manager, rented Columb'a hall

for Tuesday arid Thursday nights of

this week. A meeting was arranged for

Reppa, Tuesday night, and for Wickey.

Thursday nignt. After eggs were hurl

ed at him in Marktown Wednesday niKlit.

Wickey cancelled his meeting at Col

umbia hall, which had been rented for

him by Rppa'8 camaign manager.

Frank Callahan and the Independent

ticket will wind up their campaign in the East Chicago end of the Twin Cities with a big rally at the Masonic tem

ple tonljrht. Tomorrow night he will have another rally at the Auditorium theater in Indiana Harbor.

The republicans have rallies tonight at the D&Luxe and Orpheum theaters in Hammond.
