SLOGAN OF IN
DEPENDENTS
(BY ATTORNEY r. A. PARKS.) The- Reppa party, realuins they are defeated, have resorted to trickery e-nd chicanery; they are misrepresented falsifying facts; they have attackChe good name of many of the best Citizens of Kast Chicago; they are carrying on a campaign of libel, slander and vilification with such persons as Marcus Hershcovitz, Henry Landeneld, Billy Murray. W. O. Harmon." L. JV. Sarlo and the 'M?ourbon Kid", as their spokesmen. - When they saw that the last nail wall was driven in their coffin by the xposure of the part that John K. Ileppa took in the primary campaign of 1917, wherein he attempted to put over a ticket on which there were to be no native born Americans, through 4V ba Ottenheimer and E. W. Wickey, 4nd Tommy Richards as a "mo too", rhey attempted to steal the name and emblem of the Citisens Tarty and even deprive the voters of this city from ven voting for the candidates of the Citisens Party on election day. On account of loopholes in our election laws and by reason of the Reppa organization having1 two of the three
members of the board of election commissioners, which two members were Abe Ottenheimer and Tummy Richards, they have bevn able to steal the name of the Citizens Party, together with the party emblem, the stnr. Hut fortunately the steal was accomplished and known ten days before, this city election which Is a mifflrlent time for the Callahan Party to go out to the voters of our city, of whom at lease two-thirds are for Prank Callahan for mayor, to know that on election day Callahan and his associates will be found on the official ballot under the name of Independent Party and the shield as the. party rinblotii. As a sample of a f a w of the misrepresentations which are beinR printed In Reppa's newspaper, we montlon the following: Statements are beinitr made to show that certain liquor dealers were not paying their liquor licentes during- the Callahan administration. It ia true that in the City of Kast Chicago, as well as in Gary and Hammond and other cities in Lake County and throughout the State of Indiana, that seldom the saloonkeepers did not al-

ways pay their liquor licenses within , tho Ave days as provided by law. But !
a search of the liquor license records In the city controller's office will show that dring the Callahan administration the city never lout one cent by the non-payment of liquor licenses. One of the crudest attempts to misload tho voters and falsify the farts Is a statement from the report of the Held examiners of the State Board of Accounts, who examined" the books and accounts of the city officials in January 1st. 1913. to December 31st, 191ti. In this report the following Is quoted: "Wn are accustomed to think of a bonded indebtedness on a municipality as representing some Improvement
made, or property purchased, but In ;
this Instance, better than eighty per cent of the municipal Indebtedness represents accumulation of adminis
tration expense. This condition, un- ( slander will divert them one lota from
less remedied soon, will surely leadt to
financial suicide." The bonded indebtedness of the city in 1816. was as follows: Kefundlnff bonds issued 1905 f 30,000.00 Refunding bonds Issued 1816 100,000.00 Indiana Harbor S'lre Station bonds . . S.B5.0 Garbage Crematory bonds.. 11.500.00

and leaders stand condemned in the eyes of the publio. Only the official ratification of this condemnation Is awaited at tha city Election on November 8th, 1M1.

Total 1X.046.00 The State Board of Accounts no doubt ha-'d reference to the two Issues of refunding bonds. The refunding bond Issue of 1905 was under the Hale administration. The refunding bond issue of $100,000.00 for 1915 waa during the Callahan administration. - but it was as everyone knows who waa familiar with the financial conditions of our city for several years prior to 1915, that the refunding bond Issue of 1915 was to take up and iuy outstanding warrants and indebtedness, which were inherited from the Hchlleker adThe books in the controller's office will show this. On account of this refunding bond issue of 115, the Callahan administration Was able to pay oiY the outstanding warrants and indebtedness inherited from the .Schlleker administration and to place the city un a cash basis as to the payments of city warrants where It has teen up to the present time. During the year 1913, the Schlleker administration expended $80.00.00 more than the receipts of the ctty for that year. This deficit along with the deficit of a preceding year was passed along to the Callahan administration which necessitated the refunding bond Issue of 1915. It is not-the Intention of the Callahan managers to attempt to nail every lie and explain every false charge of misrepresentation made by the Reppa. followers. The preceding are only samples of the hundreds that are being spread over the city. The two preceding are taken from their official organ, but those which are passed and handed out on the street and privately are much worse. Scandalous stories are privately told about candidates on the Callahan or Independent ticket. With defeat staring them In the face the K.eppa followers hava become malicious and malignant. But, "Truth crushed to earth will rise again." The voters of this city are not as ignorant and gullible as the Reppa party would have you think. The voters of this city have made up their minds what they are going to do and no stealth of party name or emblem, no trickery, no ehlcenerv, libel or

Rheumatism for Years Left Him Helpless and Unable to Work-Cured
Mr. James H. .Allen suffered for years with rheumatism. Many times this terrible disease left him helpless and unable to work. He finally decided, after years of ceaseless study, that no one can be free from rheumatism until the accumulated impurities, commonly called uric acid deposits, wens dissolved In the Joints and muscles and expelled from the ody. With this idea In mind he consulted phycleian. mud exnrimnt and flnaJIv comoounded a prescription that quickly and completely banlshad every flrn and symptom of rheumatism from his system. He freelv rave his discovery to others who took it, with what mlirht be called marveloaa success. After vears of urdn: he decided to let sufferers everywhere know about hi. discovery thrwifh the newspapers. Wets rrug Company has lien appointed agent for Allenrhn In this viclnitv with the un-derstandine-that he will freelv return the turchae money on the first two Tattles to all who state they received no benefit. dv.
