E. C. DODGERS WIN EASILY FROM LIONS The East Chicago Dodgers smashed through the Indiana Harbor Lion's defense for the unbalanced score of 46-0 last Sunday at the East Chicago tight arena. And this In spite of the fact that three E. C. high school stars, namely, Popovitch. Mattakowski and Newell, were stacked In the Eions eleven. The Dodgers scored almost at will in the first half, and, at the beginning of the second half, a new line of second-string players were run in which brought the teams weight fifteen pounds below their normal figure. Even then the baffling formations of the Dodeers offense netted two goal's. The te.-hui's defense was like a stone wall, only two times did the l.ions make first downs. Ed Williams, the iensa t !-ral Dodger halfback, easily took the honors of uns. for. the day by h's brilliant end ro smashing line pluneres and perfect ward passing. Whenever a gain wa. needed Williams was invariably the man to get it. lie cross d the goal line no less than four tines, notwithstanding the fact that tin- I.-ions dirct d their whole di-fen.-'e against him. Kinkie Quinn, smart captain of the Dodgers, ploughed fifteen yards thru the Indiana Harbor line for a touchdown. He scored another marker a few minutes later on a tweity yard run thru the Lions entire team. Gipp Blake, Dodger quarterback' and the brains of the team, cupped a beautiful forwaixl pass In his outstretched arms behind the goal line. Coach Walter Piper, late E. C. Gopher tackle, -was elated at t ie success of his team; but, like all goo-d coaches he was not entirely satisfied, j He hopes to mould a nerfect eleven I out of his -material In order to compete with some of the fast Chicago lightweight teams that are goincr btg in the city. The annual iliKht of wild game birds south ward from tliir breeding grounds is on and is ahead this year of the usual time such flights start, acciordinK to the Hiolugical Survc-J', I" tilted .States Pcpai'tTm-nt of Agriculture. Many more thousands of birds aie now on the Winn, the department states, than have flown south for years. All indications are toat the fiiR-ht will not or.'y furnish hunters excellent sport, but that there will have to be little waiting after the open season Starts. No reason is assiK'ied by the department for the eurliness of the southern iliiriit. Only tho birds know. The pintail and the teal already are on the wing. Although outweighed CO pounds to a man the Friars won by bette,r pi lying and team work. The Friars points came in the first and third quarters with Keklcli making beautiful forward passes to Thiessen who eluded everything In his paths for touchdowns and the little quarterback kicking goals. the elusive little half back was another shining star he tackling and downing men outweighing him 40 lbs. as everybody In the Calumet region knows little Tommy won't weigh over 130 pounds. The Friars line proved by their work yesterday to be stonewall variety by holding the strong Crown Point team for downs. Cross playing ut right tackle threw them right and left when they tried to come through, his way until he wrenched his ankle when he left the game Crown Point tried to get through the man w ho relieved Joe but Couch Hart seeing this sent Hond In and he al.-.o did likewise as Cross did. held them tight. Keefe and Turner of tbe Friars did very fine work as did the little Ted Brown who showed Crown Point that the bigger the harder they fall and they carried several of the Crown Point lads off the field in bad shape before the game was threo Quarters gone. Crown Point's touchdown came in the last quarter the result of f ui ward passes and line plunge's, but on their second attempt, at this same offense the Friars put up a defense that held them like a ttone wall.

Coach Hart will have the boys three and is using some nigMs this week new plays for the then away we go boys to Master and again, the management and all the Friar club were gratified at the swell showing Whiting made at this game and this is gratifying to know tliat they have, such a large following of fans, and it is hoped that they will continue to increase. The next game will bo in Whiting .Sunday. Oct. 23, on the Friars field with the strong Vernon A. C. of Chicago and a very good game is looked for. ASHER HAS EDGE ON ERTLE IN 12 ROUNDS WINNIPEG, Man.. TACKLE STRONG LOWELL 'LEVEN Th Maroons of West Hammond will Invade Lowell Sunday to tacklo the huskies of that city, who were on th top end of thei score agains-t Valparaiso last Sunday, when the Legion team put over a touch down for the only score of the game, winning 6-0. Reports s'how that the Lowell city represent a wonderful team this year and the Maroons will have to light" overy inch to score a victory over the Legion agregatlon, who have composed a wonderful team, under a coac.'i who has had experience in the big ten. However tbe Maroon backers are not giving up hopes, for the Sunday battle, the team has been ordered oui every night this week, for a hard pracMce, so as to be in tip top shape when the boys tackle the lowell eleven. As the Maroons have had two weeks to prepare themselves against the Lowell tea.m by not playing last Sunday, this ought to be a great advantage. Inasmuch as plenty of practice has been held since the GaryCardinal game two weeks ago, and all of the men are rounding into shape and have been given new plays by their coach to perform against the Legion eleven. Manager Chayken expects to carry a largo delegatron rooters with him on this trip as he has secured a couple of trucks to have his backers and respective rooters on. Those wis-hing to go along will please be at the Maroon club rooms Sunday noon ,the charges for the round trip will be about a dollar. Manager Berg of the Lowell team expe.cts a record breaking crowd out to witnes-s this game, as he states that the city of Lowell will be out in full fyrce to root for the home team. Hard en Tablewar.
