With his small gjass slips, he secures among others, the finger prints of Tom Driscoll. fix months aid and of Chambers, nix and one half months old the baby of Boxy, a mulattoe slave, owned by the Driscoll family. These babies are children of the name father and look much alike. Roiy changes the babies, paes off her child as the heir of the Driscolls, and thus makes the real heir the slave. Twenty years later, the false ;Tom DrlscoU Returns from college, sells his real mother as a slave and in a fit of temper, murders his wealthy r:ncle. Tom, Jealous of the interest the beautiful Rovena Cooper takes in Chambers, tries to fix the crime on him. Chambers is about to be lynched by the indignant whites when "Pudd'n Head" announces that he is the slave's attorney and insists upon . trial. Investigating the finger prints left upon the dagger that was used n the murder, Wilson traces the marks and at the trial ffrcea Roxy, the slave, to confess that she changed the babies in their cradles. The real Tom 1s acquitted and goes to Rowena while the real negro is taken to jail. ', In the cast supporting Mr. Roberts .are Thomas Melghan, Florence Dagmar. Alian Hale. Cohen of the East Chicago city court has announced that hereafter city court will be in session from 9:00 a. m. to 12 noon, instead of opening at 1:00 p. m., and that all cases will be tried in the morning. Monday court, however, will be held as heretofore, in the afternoon.

RELIEF BENEFIT The benefit for relief show given last Tuesday night under the auspices of the auspices of the Americanization League at the Ivric theatre netted charity $159.40. The sum was made possible by the Hartley and Sons donating the use of the Lyric theatre and appropriating the picture for the performance. This is one of the first biii moves made by any business m.;n of the city in lending assistance to the cause of relief and charity. '

Mrs. Mary Drischman. Mrs. Alice Gerry Griswold, formerly a Baltimore society belle, at one time wife of Melville Patterson, died recently at Atlantic City, N. J., cutting off her daughter, the Countess St. Clair Contubia of Italy, with $500. Mrs. Griswold left the remainder of- her great estate to a Mrs. Mary Drischman, wife of an At'.artic City butcher. The music section of the East Chicago Woman's Club met last evening at the home of Mrs. H. J. Oilman in Xorthcote ave. Mrs. I.eeter Ottenhelmer, chairman of the section dispensed with all business and turned the meeting over to Miss Florence Catheart, who gave a very fine talk on the operas, giving the utory of Puccini's Orwra LaBobeme. The interpretations were given by Mls Olive June Eacey, who is possessed with a charming voice and her rendering of the various songs were creatly enjoyed. Miss Lacey has Bung before many of the important clubs of Chicago, she is sn experienced church soloist. The numbers given by the pianist Miss Martha Lathrop were well executed. There was a good attendance of the club members, who feel grateful to the department for having brought this splendid trio to the club. The , committee in charge served delicious punch.
