The exhaust valve then opens as the piston comes up and lorces the burned gases out through the exhaust valve, manifold and out the muffler. W hen the mlxfjre is too lean there stiil remains in the olinrlT certain quantities of burning gases which cannot be forced out by the piston on exhaust strike. Under this condition, as the Intake opens and the piston starts down on the next intake stroke, the burning gases, which still remain in the cylinder, Ignite the new Intake charge, and the flash is followed out the intake valve to the Intake, manifold then to the arburetor. hence the "pop."
