Tarts manufacturers hae found themselves in much the Fame predicament and are at the present time supplying the minufacturers at a reduced price enabling them ta cut their products to the dealers and sub-denlert) throughout the country. The great number of recently announced drop in prkes is proof of this fact and of the fact that automobile manufacturers have at last succeeded In "unloading" and now intend to give the motorlft the same substantial quality at a greatly recuced price. The fe.lms and employment situation In the Motor City is on the increase and reports show that th"re has been no Cut In Trorklr.ff hours, but to the contrary a great number of men have been added to the pay rolls on par' time. LEAN" DEFINED

On a bright snappy morninc you step on the Mlarter and the motor itarts, runs for a second, and stops. i'U try it again, and It does better, ut when you feed a little mora gas, . op, pop" and the motor dies. That la caused by too lean a mix.Jie. Hut you ask yourstlf why hy does It "pop." Klrst yon must form a mental picture of the four cycles or strokes i a piston, namely, the intake, corni ression, power and exhaust; strokes .ilso picture the alves, on tho intake stroke, as the piston goes down, 'he intake valve opens, allowing the suction of piston to draw gas from the carburetor Into the cylinder, then the intake valve closes, the exhaust valve aljo remains closed, and the piston starts up on compression stroke. hen It reaches the top dead center or 10 deres past, the spark occurs, and the compressed gas explodes and drives the piston down on the power stroke. The exhaust valve then opens as the piston comes up and lorces the burned gases out through the exhaust valve, manifold and out the muffler. W hen the mlxfjre is too lean there stiil remains in the olinrlT certain quantities of burning gases which cannot be forced out by the piston on exhaust strike. Under this condition, as the Intake opens and the piston starts down on the next intake stroke, the burning gases, which still remain in the cylinder, Ignite the new Intake charge, and the flash is followed out the intake valve to the Intake, manifold then to the arburetor. hence the "pop."
