They were knocked out ar a meeting; of the city council last night by a vote of 7-4. It was believed that the council would cast a vo'.e in favor of them, as last week at an informal caucus committee meeting the vote stood 9-3 in favor of using voting machines. At the meeting last night, however, the council members did the inevitable and the vote came as a surprise especially to political factions who wanted the machines used in the coming election. The council expalined -however, that by not using the voting machines, a sum of some $700 would be saved. It is understood that the Johnson forces were in favor of tho voting- machines, thus giving the Curtis men who opposed them, a so-called victory. This means that tho ballot will be used exclusively in Gary and returns of the election will probably be lata as a result. "Jacob's Well." This well is near Nablus. Syria.
