TO THE UNION CARPENTERS OF HAMMOND This is to advise you that we need thirty competent union carp. enters at the Industrial High School Monday morning, September 2"th. wage $1 on per hour. We make this l;u-t appeal to the union men of Hammond to resort to rea.-on and abide by Judge Land'.s' decision by returning to work, pending a further hearing. When Judge Land is was decided upon to act as arbiter, the employers, as well as al! building trades, agreed to abide by his award This the carpenters have failed to do, having left their respective jobs' regardless of extra expense or Inconvenience their employers may have been put to by the exposure of unfinished work. We desire especially to call your attention to the High School now under construction. The unfinished condition of the building is of minor Importance when you consider how seriously it will handicap the education of the children which are now attending the school. You have been advisvd previously by the papers that the contract or the new school was let on a J1.00 per hour basis and up to the present time we have respected Judge Land is' order at a great loss to ourselves y paying the men $1.2'5 per hour, and, even though you may not take the contractor's view, is it not yc-ur patriotic duty to return to work on the school, making it possibl,. to complete the building and provide proper facilities for the educating of the children who will be the ones to suffer. We) as employers, have at all times been fair to organized l.-Cbor and desire to ibe so now. but we feel from the past and present experience that the time has come when patience ceases to be a virtue and unlef lnp union carpenters
