irauar provokes a iuot - A - fftranser. "who gav hi nam s.s "Miller Venahji and him native land as ELt HAJBiaond. ihreewd !n the Indiana Harbor police tatlon yesterday upon hla own Initiative. The stranger parked himsalf into a b' eay chair and without once venturing moment of his Hps g-ased ail around the room at the .several policemen as if they were so many curioles. Th oroped wanner of the gentleman and his Quaksr mood soon aroused th curiosity of the force, and Sergt. "Kerr Teted the Invader with "what the h do you want." This short address seemed to hit relative nerve cords and brought a reaction of blaspheming sounds yet unrecorded In these quarters. The stranger did not swear !n the usual conventional way, but richly with feeling for color and sting, strong In the vivid adjective. Me swore In a bastard dialect, compounded of -Hungarian, Roumanian -nd Juso

Slo'vsJc After repeating a few verses along this Une the visitor was escorted to the front way and given the boot with the compliments of those present. A report from the fire station says that , th same man found his way to the retr of the building where he contributed the same tongue exercises. But there the boys unaccustomed to such a vocabulary retreated to secluded quart ers and left the stranger to soliloquy. Not gaining an audience with the Are boys, Venshan retraced his steps to the police station and there demanded a cigar, threatening the force with repetition of his formr program if his demands were not forthcoming. There 'ipon he was snapped In Jail.

Xo sooner had tha Iron doors closed

behind Venshan than the crashing of

broken glass cam from the inner cells.

tTpon opening the door, the turn-key caught the prisoner In the act of break

in-g the fourth window pane. This

malicious action caused tha police to transfer his customer to tha upper

floor Jail in a closed apartment.

Five minutes had elapsed and things had once more regained the usual sol

emnity in the station, when' suddenly

from the stairway su''shed forth i torrent of water, forming a young Nl

ag.ra as It bounded down tha stairs from the upper floor and into the Ser

geant's office. The diversity in ras

caJlty of their late customer stood the

force spell-ibound. When Anally Sr

geant Kerr reallting the acute situa

tion dashed up the stairs and into the

eel to find that the prisoner had stuffed

his coat In the toilet and broken the

casting off ibowl, allowing the water

to spout out freely. In the cell the

prisoner wan floundering around in his

created pool like a bathing nymph.

The water was shut off and a plumb

er called to perform his duty, but

there was no clean pillow slips or dry

change for the prisoner he was al

lowed to sleep In the wet onec he 'had

made for himself.

Venshan was arraigned In the Kast Chicago court yesterday on a charge of drunk and disorderly conduct and fined $1 and coats, but Is yet unable to meet

the expense and still remains in the

Jail.
