It means that he expects a contest for the nomination and perhaps a bitter one. One of the senator's strongest supporters declared today that he feels confident that Mr. Feveridgre will start in the race. Ha declared he believes he will gro to the primary, but of course there Is a possibility of the ex-senator droppine out of the contest in the eprlnjr If conditions do not seem favorable. There ! no doubt that tha result o fthe election in Indianapolis thl3 fail will have some effect on the senatorial contest. One of the amusing things in the Indianapolis campaign Is the fact that there Is more Kossip among the Shank leaders about the senatorship than the fall election. They believe Shank's election 15 certain. No open promises are being made to the -( enator's eupjor.ors, but under the surface there are many things going on which indicate that the attitude of many of the higher ups In the Shank organization are proBe verldge. The well-known Beverldge man In Indianapolis ar beginning to take a very active Interest In the Shank campaign. They are being sought hy the Shank leaders to harmonize some of the old organization leaders. This relationship is regarded as significant. However. It is not expected that this friendship will develop fo an obnoxious degree. The most that can be hoped for by the Beverldgo leaders Is a clean primary, free from maohlnle control In some twenty pre
