DANCING TEACHERS

REFORHF
Catch-as-Catch-Can Dances and Toddle Steps to Be Tabooed. (INTERNATIONAL NEWS SERVICE1 XEW YORK. Auff. 4 Its not what you do with your feet that mattr, said Grajiddaddy Lewis Kretlow today. "It's what you don't do with them when the rest of you Is going places." Granddaddy Lewis knows. He is the patriarch of American dancing teachers here in convention convened to divis some new steps and reduce the rough stuff In modern dancing to one-half of one per cent. Some fsvo hundred odd dancing teachers from all parts of the United States have charged upon New York for their annual gathering shouting "refofm." Or at least enough reform so that any young man who wanta to keep abreast of the times and h!s best sweet 1e must get out and get himself some dancing lessons. They're going to take away the toddle. The oateh-as-eateh-ean Is to be officially counted out. All those vulgar, easy dance that any one with two legs or maybe a stout crutch could do at sight are to be banned and tabooed the coming winter. There has ben a slump in the danring teaching business, many delegates admitted tod:. The dancea were getting so simple that many people were drawn right up out of their steats by the wall of the aaxaphone and before they knew it were out in the middle of the floor toddling away without having taken any lessons at all. Moreover. "standardization. that key word f the dancing teaching industry waa tossed to the four notes of the piccolo by the simplicity of the recent Innovations. Kvry one's todle was his own and it was just as good as any one's else. So we are to have some new, more stately dances for the coming season. Just what they are to be will be determined before the end of the week.

Why Rich Men Want More, Tbe reason a rich man la sever sat Isfied with the size of his fortune la not necessarily because he has aclulred a kind oT hog Instinct, but rather because his knowledge of affairs and his breadth of vision have crown until he sees bigger and bigger things that he wishes to do; and his ambition to accomplish Is always a few leads ahead of his capital. The rlcliest men In the world are usually the heaviest borrowers, because they are In a position to see the most to be done. Hence any man setting out to get rich might as well recognise at the beginning, that from the very nature of things, he can never hope to feel that he has enough. Fred Kelly In The Nation's Business.

Delicacies That Do Not Travel. Least appreciated, relatively to theft gastronomlcal merits, are the softshelled turtles, native of the larga streams and lakes. They are hardly Inferior to the dinmond back terrapin, but are seldom seen in the markets for two reasons because they do not ship well and because local demand, where they are caught, uses up the supply. They are home-consumption delicacies, like the honey banana, the emerald-gem muskmelon and the fall pippin apple too good for the ordinary market and sure to lose their original flavor In passing through the hands of the middleman.
