The special school fund Includes money used for overhead expenses such as maintenance and operation of the school plants, support of vocational schools, payment of bonds and interest, erection of new buildings and money borrowed from banks (the latter $127,600). There was $156,367.84 in thi sfund at the beginning of the year and the- following expenditures were made: Permanent Improvements, $26,075.11. Supervision, $4,999.23. Substitute and special teaching not paid out of tuition fund. $11,836.95. Maintenance of vocational school including part time and continuation classes, night schools etc., $39,53g.87. etc., and is of the portable type of construction. Units of portable schools re being built at the ilaywood, Lincin and Lafayette schools. These three additions include class rooms and gymnasiums. The most ambitious, however, ia the additions and alterations of the industrial high school building which with cost of equipment will represent an expenditure of $500,000 to be met by a bond issue now being arranged. The total cost of the portable schools is $60,000, making the building program of the year in excess of half a million dollars. TO BE FI.VEST IX RECIO.Y. When the Industrial high school building Is complete it will be the finest school plant in northern Indiana. The chief disappointment of the year to the board was that it could not find a buyer for the Central school nror.
