East Chicago Council Locks Horns With Board of Public "Works. TMngrs have been running; quite Irregular for some time between the board of public works and tht common council of the city of East Chicago. Last night the climax of disapproval came when the council unaminously rejected any further appropriation for the board of works until members of that body came oefore the council and explained for what purposes such enormous amounts of moneys were beiner expended. The two ordinances prepared by the request Of the board of works asked for a total appropriation of $8,000. The $5,000 ordinance was for miscellaneous expenses, the other $3,000 ordinance for sewer maintenance and repairs. Hoth ordinances were lain Tipon the table until after a member of the board of works has met with the eommun couacil and explained where the money isfijoing-. An ordinance appropriating- $2.59S.7a to the cty department of law was allowed by the council. This amount to be paid the firm of Pearec, Greeley and Hansen, consulting engineers employed by the city of East Chicago, during: the recent water rate survey, preparing a report of the water company plant valuation and giving- evidence at the hearing- held on July 7. 8 and 9 . PLANS ARE ORDERED At the board of works meeting yesterday afternoon, the city engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the Hammond, Whiting and East Chicago Street Car company line improvement, from the limits of the city north to 145th street wuth. , Members of the board have decided that the street car company promises of improving this street are worn out, and have taken the responsibiliiy of making the Improvement, the expense however to revert to the street car company. Plans and specifications are being prepared for the improvement with concrete of Homerlee street. from 141st to 145th street. The city attorney was instructed to prepare preliminary resolutions for railroad grade crossings at Michigan avenue, 141st street and on Pariish avenue at the General American Tank Car Corporation plant between Chicago avenue and 145th street. The city engineer was also instructed to prepare plans and specifications on thia work.

BOY SCOUTS CAMP The Boy Scout camp at Win-Sun is becoming very popular with the older folks. Not because of the menu alone but of the fresh lake breezes and the good swimming Lake Win-Sun affords. Scout Executive Sambrook says that Camp Win-Sun will take care of the major boys and girls as well as the minors. A. C. Senour, Dr. McCormack. John P.. Farovid, Harvey R. Philips and Alan K. Lewis were among the Sunday visitors to relish the Sabbath menu prepared by the boy scouts of chicken fricassee, mashed potatoes, chi ken gravy, dumpiing, peas, sliced pineapple and lemonade.
