AVhat a wonderful thing Is youti. N wonder one hates to relinquish it. For Marie Klannery claims with all "tiie artless guilelessness of youth that rhe's very sorry, indeed, but Charka ' V.. Uenedict can't take back his cn"agfincr.t r;n; by force of law be- ; cause she's under age and can't be Isuid. Mr. Benedict paid $1000 for solitaire for Marie as one induee-r.i-nt for her to become her bride. But sh and her father decidfd that she ; w as too successful as a stenographer ; to marry the first man that came along with a diamond and so she re- ? retted her Suability to be h.s and . considered the incident closed. But -i rr. Benedict! "Give me back Iinuh ring." said he. "Oh no, I want ; t.- keep that to remember our frier.d- ; ship by." protested Marie. "I'm so sentimental." So he gued. And the sentimental young girl brings out the f.im'ly bible to prove that she can't be' party to a civil suit because of her yi utli, prized youth.

In spite of t.i" decrease in employment the manual laborers haven't yet shown &w treat enthusiasm for tiiat rural occupation. But clerks, bookkeepers, and jt:;era of "the great organized group" wh have lost their Jobs or Buffered cut in salaries have evidently thought it over and decided to try another tsoi;. "f ully 20 per cent, more city me1, are going back to the farm this year than lajt," says the manager of a big farm agency. "And most of them are clerks and office men."

A police precinct is no place for i pink teas, even it it's a woman's pre- ! c.r.et. Such is the decision of the j New York Police department; and the j dij-pute 'regarding its correctness has' pretty nearly split the women's di- . v;i.-n asunder. Somebody had a. pleasant idea that the women's police j .-tation where women offenders were' brought should be turned into a "hos-it.-s house" with ail the acccessories j f hospitality which go with that in.t.iution. But Mrs. George Loft, of i Fifth Deputy Police Commissioner'
