VIOLATE TRAFFIC ORDINANCE; FINED Two truck drivers Carl Malllnger and Walter Ovcrmeyer who were arrested at Ambridge and Fifth avenue in Gary yesterday for driving their trucks on thewrong side oi the street were found juilty in the Gary police court this morning and fined $11 each by City Judge Dunn.

STREET RALWAY RUSHNG WORK Work is rapidly being pushed forward by the Gary Street Railway in laying new tracks and steel ties and concreting its right cf way on Broadway between the city paving between the Wabash and the Pennsylvania. R. R. tracks which last year was repaired by the city. The ptrect railway company started work at the Wabash tracks and are now past Ninth avenue. Effort is being made to get the stretch between the Wabash tracks and the turn on Eleventh avenue completed Just as soon as possible. In order that Tolleston and Hammond cars will have a clear traffic. It is not thought that the entire Job will be completed until late in the tturr.mer.

BIG STRIKE IN JAPAN TGKIO. July 13. Naval construction work in Japan is at a standstill as a result of the strike of 20,000 workmen in the 'Kobe Shipyards and sympathetic strikes elsewhere. A council of workmen has been formed at Kobe to take over th; shipyards.
GARY CHAMPION BUSY WRESTLING George Metropolis A. A. U. mat champion and member of the American Olyra pic wrestling team will be a busy man fhls week with three matches on his hands. Thursday night he will tackle Bobby Byland of Danville, III.. Friday night Joe Hollander New Orleans champion and Saturday night Fred Gotch of Waterloo, la. The bouts will be staged at Sth avenue and Broadway and will be to a finish. George said he is confident of winning them all.

THEATRE CHANGES HANDS Joseph Hartley and Sons, have taken charge of the Lyric theatre in East Chicago. The theatre building was purchased from Warner and Meyn, of Hammond, by Joseph Hartley and Sons last fall. The lease, which ran out the first of July was not renewed by Mr. Craick. It was announced that the Lyric theatre would only be open on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. Following the taking over of the Lyric, Mr. Hartley posted a notice of a reduction in admission from 28 cents to 22 cents. The Hartley treatre Company promises the best productions of the First National, frox. Famous Players, Real Art and Select.
NEW ORDER FOR G. A. An order for 100 all steel refrigerator car under frames has been placed with the General American Car Cornpan, a subsidiary of the General American Tank Car Corporation. East Chicago, by the American Refrigerator Transit company. The order was placed through the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

NEW BATTERY COMPANY East Chicago's phenomlhal rise in the industrial world is noticed by the gradual increase of the new interests locating in the Calumet region. The Wickey Battery Company is the latest to come to East Chicago. The new plant is being erected on Exohange avenue between For.sythe avenue and Short street, adjoining the Citisen's Ice company plant. The new addition is estimated to cost $60,000. The battery output of this industry is now over 25 daily and it is expected in the near future to put the plant on a production basia of 230 batteries daily. An order from the Mexican government for S00 batteries was received yesterday. The output so far has not reached the demand. Ed. W. Wickey, president and the treasurer of the new concern, said yesterday that the Wickey Battery company was not affiliated in an way and had no connections with the O. K. Giant Bater company of Gary. Other off; cers are Vice-president J. E. Francis, formerly of the Famous Manufacturing company and Secretary W. G. Wickey.
