I Happenings Of A Day In Mrs. Luther Rudolph has "been quite sick the past few day, having: glvm birth to baby boy on July 4th, the littla one only living- few minutes. C. J. Tinkham and daughter Marjory of Bennent. 111., spent the Fourth with Mayer Allman and family. A dinner was given in honor of John Claude, Mls Tinkhams finance, prior to his departure for California where he goes to accept a good position with an engineering company, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Schur and children of Detroit, Mich., were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Minas on July Fourth. Fred Huffman, of Chicago, an old time resident of Crown Point, made his annual visit to Crown Point on Monday. A email son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Carl had the misfortune to have his arm broken at the Fair Grounds on July 4th. A fall from the grand stand was the auw of the injury. DISE EVENT IN GARY People's Hardware Company Takes Lead in Radical Price Re -Adjustment. The great selling campaign Inaugurated June 15th by the Peorle's Hardware Company of Gary has demonstrated to the. buying public an honest and determined effort to bring prices down to pre-war basis. In many cases lines of merchandise were marked below present replacement prices. The People's Hardware Company wishes to thank the peopie of Gary and surrounding -country for the liberal response to their sale announcements. The confidence with which the public bought at this sale was certainly gratifying. They came from dlatances of 50 to 75 miles, thousands of dollars worth of merchandise going to our sister cities. As a result Mrs. Eleanor Zouch filed suit for divorce through her attorneys In the Oary Superior court yesterday afternoon. She asks a divorce and $2,000 alimony. BUSINESS IN GARY CITY COURT DECREASES Fines and costs taken In, the Gary police court during the month of July amounted to a total of $2.96 according to the monthly report issued from the office of Chief of Police Forbis yoserday. This is a decrease however. as against other months this year. CHIEF FORBIS CALLED TO HARTWELL, OHIO Captain Frank Roach is acting in the capacity of chief of police this week during the absence of Chief Forbis who was called awAy on a sad mission to Hart well. SAYS HUSBAND IS DRUNKARD; WANTS A DIVORCE Eleanor Zouch haa filed suit for divorce in the Gary Lake superior court from her husband, who, ch charges In her complaint is a habitual drunkard. She alleges that for six months prior to July 4, her husband was in a drunken and maudlin condition most of the time. All of this was bad enouyh, but when he cam home one nlfht in an Intoxicated condition and Called her a "puppy dog," and other names of the same character, she decided it was tim for action. BOATS WITH IRON ORE ANCHOR HERE The past week brought in five boats loaded with Iron ore. Each boat carried from J2.000 to 14,000 tons. The names of the boats wer? "W .J. Filbert." "H. H. Kogers." "W. B. Schuller." "J. L. Clemson," and "H. D. Williams." MAKE PLANS FOR AIRSHIP ARRIVAL When the monster naval passenger plane, the Santa Maria, makes its stop at Miller Beach, east- of Gary in the near future, there will be a number of notable aboard, according to word received yesterday. The plane will make a trip from Detroit to .Chicago. Among the passengers will be Capt. William Moffet. director of aviation of the U. S. navy; Senator Keyes, New Hampshire, member of house smb-com-mlttee on aviation; Governor Groesbeck, of Michigan; Dr. J. W. Inches, police commissioner of Detroit and a number of others. President H. S. Norton of the Commercial club today appointed a committee of hree club directors to complete arrangements for the landing of the monster airplane here. The committee is composed of Harry AV. Soramers. secretary; C. M. Leary, vice present; A. S. Hesg and Russell Llngard. GARY GOT SUN BURNED OVER THE FOURTH "Ouch! Tou, look out for my back." That's the expression that Is being used by about fifty per cent of Gary's population, both young and old, today. Seems that most everybody In the city got sun burned over the recent holiday and the drug atorls report a rushing business in the sale of ointments and cold creams. GRIFFITH FOUNDRY COMPANY SUED
Suit was filed today in the Hammond superior court by the firm of E. C. Humphreys & Co.. against the Griffith Fouridry company, for Judgment to cover losses sustained whepthe foundry company refused to accept a carload if pig iron which it had contracted for. The load of pig iron was eold to the foundry at $43 a ton plus the freight charges. When the defendants refused to accept it the plaintiffs had to resell it at a loss of S3 a ton. This with their expense In the transaction hrlngs the loss up to $267.63, they say. Crumpacker & Crumpacker are attorney for the plaintiffs.
