INDEFINETELY Copies of the popplemental order from the Public Service Commission of Indiana, continuing the S cent fare on the H. W. E. C. street railways for an indefinite period, have becn received from Indianapolis. After summing up the evidence submitted, the order says: "No complaint waa offered at the hearing concerning the service and the evidence indicates that petitioner has been making extensive repairs to its track and equipment and that the business of tne utility is conducted with economy and efficiency. It Is o hoped that the fare may be redocea but it can be reduced only by material reduction of petitioner's operating expense?, which is mainly labor coat, or by a very large
Increase of traffic. Neither of these things seen at ajl likely tu occur for at least a year." The order requires that the company continue to Hie with the commission and cities the monthly report "n its business in order that both may be kept fully Informed.

Railroad Unions' Meeting in Chicago Will Seek Compromise Negotiations.
riNTER NATIONAL NEWS SERVICE CHICAGO, July 2 With the railway labor thtefs gathered in Chicago to rvia tht 12 per ceut wage cut fully determined to avoid hasty action and hot words, prospects that the committee charged with formulation of a policy btand by the workers would recommend a strike at this time were slim today. The committee of five railway labor heads will determine what action will be recommended to the 1,000 labor delegates gathered here. Their recommendation, it is believed, very likely will be Indorsed by the delegate. There was considerable talk today that the jailwaymcn would be urged to accept "temporarily" the wage slash, pending further negotiation, or to back up a compromise proposal of a smaller wage cut. say. possibly six per cent. It was recognized by the delegates that a strike at this time would not be to their advantage and that the roads would be less Injured by an immediate strike, with the industrial depression, than later. It was agreed by the committee of five that no inkling of its position be made public until a signed statement is issued. The trend of opinion among the' four railroad brotherhood delegations was that the wage cut might be accepted Informally, but that compromise negotiations should be re-opened with tno railway line slndividually . The policy committee may spread Its sessions over several days. This body Is composed of P.. M. Jewell, head of the Railway Employes' De-

The people of the City of East Chicago not only get their water from one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world, but the closeness of the community to Lake Michigan insures relatively cool water. Water here does not have to travel through mile of pipes to inland points, as is the case in many sections of a large city. There is a distinct advantage in getting drinking water from such a large fresh water sea as Lake Michigan. It means better water than is furnished to communities that depend upon rivers. But the people of the City of East Chicago have still further advantage. This community is supplied with lake water that is first filtered and purified by one of the most modern and scientific filtration plants in the United States. That insures clear, clean, potable water, free from germs. And the nearness of our city to the lake adds to the coolness of the water. CJear, cool, fresh water, always ready day and night. Enjoy this filtered water in this warm weather.
