Pullman, 14; Whiting, 11. So. Chicago, 4; Chicago Heights, 3. Blue Island (open date.) Game e-t Sunday. Pullman at Hammond. South Chicago at Whiting. Blue Island at Harvey. Chicago Heights (no league ga.me scheduled . ) Hammond will play one of their biggest games of the year next Sunday afternoon when they tackle the team from Tullman at the Harrison park diamond . This game means much to the Hammond K. of C.'s as It will put them in second plBc providing they prove themselves capable of handing the visitors a trimming. Hammond has lost but two games to date, one fo South Chicago and the other to Pullman earlier in the FfSFon and Manager Helmbach figures that his club i now golng along at such a pace that It will he good enough to turn the tables on both Pullman and South Chicago In the next two games. Palton and Hilbrlch, Hammond's top notch hurlera are bath in the best of shape and they are now pitching air tight ball. The rest cf the team is also in the pink of condition, well fortified by good substitutes who are fully capable of stepping in and filling any position on either the in or outfield in ca.se of any emergency. In as much as next Sunday's game Is of so much Importance to the Hammond tefLm, it Is expected that the biggest crowd of the season will turn out at the Harrison park diamond to witness the big- battle which win rlcl,1 second place in the league standing. If Hammond succeeds in putting over a win on Pullman, this will give them Just the needed confidence to enable them to trim South Chicago at Beseemer park the following Sunday. Maivager Heimbach Is certainly bent on winning next Sunday's game and to insure his men being in perfect condition h- has requested evciy player to report fr practice tomorrow evening from 6:30 to Sin p. m . at Harrison park. It is hoped thit every man on the club will respond so that the entire team can put In a good Blg-ht -workout Ja preparation for
Sunday's stiff argument. The probable lineup for Sunday's gam will b Boyle. Handy. Flynn and Miller in the outfield. Chandler. O Rourk". Mdoughlin and Murphy in the infield, Harle and DalUm or Hilbrlch as the battery and Jimmy Dillon and Ralph Frendergapt as utility men. With this array of material, Hammond will present a far more formidable club than the one. that facd Fullman in their first game earlier in the f cason.

BY JAMES J. COKBETT (Former Worlds Heavyweight Champion . ) i Written Expressly for the I. N. S ) (Copyright. 1921, by the I. N. Service.). NEW YORK. June 29. Jack Dempsey's recent fight with Bill Brennan did much to bolster Georges confidence in his chances to win the championship. He made this plain to me the other day at Manhasset. "I look on the Brennan fight with much satisfaction," ald Jarpentler, "it proved several things to me. "Accounts of that fight show that Dtmpsey can be hit and by a boxer w"ho Is comparatively slow. If Brennan could hit the champion, why uot I. And I believe if I can hit him he will go down. We shall see. "Another thing. That report concerning Dempsey's condition. Did. It not occur to you, Mr. Ccrbett, that in order to take quite a beating from Brennan in the first six rounds and then come back in the final rounds and knock his man 'out, Dempsey had to be in pretty good condition? I'm quite sure he was not as bad off as has been claimed." Carpentlers angle on the BrennanDempsey fight is a brand new one. The bout has been picked to pieces by the critics many times, yet I've never heard any one say that Dempsey exhibited unusual staying qualities for a man out of shape. Dempsey said after the fight that he was glad he had proved to himself that he could go the distance. The recent bout between Willie Meehan and Tom Gibbons also came n for comment by Georges. "I am much interested to see where Gibbons knocked out Meehan," he volunteered. "I have seen Gibbons in one bout which he won very quickly. His victory over Meehan recalls to me I h fact that Dempsey has never been
nhle to knock Meehan out and has lost, in-i) decisions to him. Now then, is this fellow such a man killer aifter all?" The result of the Meehan fight Is Interesting in that it givs us another angle on Gibbons. I understand Gibbons will challenge the winner and stands a good chance of getting a match for Labor day. If he does he may some day be world's champion. One never can tell. Gibbons is a serious fellow, who lives right and takes good care of himself.
WILL SETTLE
AN ARGUMENT
THIS GAME
The W A Maroons and the Columbia A- C both of West Hammond will be the attraction at the West Hammond baseball park Sunday and Monday. Asst. Manager Chayken has scheduled both games last Monday at the meeting cf the Interstate Legue of which both teams are members. Of course some fans btlieve that the Columbia A- C- have a better ball team, inasmuch aa they defeated the strong St John team last Sunday by a score of 4 to The Columbia team was the only one who accomplished this task, as the St. John nine have won eight straight games this seson. In their encounter with the Maroons the St John team had to travel 10 innings before they could chalk up a victory and that being after the Maroons defense had been shattered, this game ended 5 to 4 The outcome of last Sunday's gam does not scare the Maroons, as they are expecting to cop both games, and Manager Shirreck has ordered all liand.i to report for practice every night, this week so as to be in perfect ahap for the two games. The game ought to be the best played as there will be plenty of pep wfaen the team gets together. The Maroon backers will be out strong to stake their team and with both clubs having their re?pect!v members out to root, will make it a day for Sunday and July Fourth- Manager Lutien will use his star twirler Romeo, who only allowed two hits last Sunday. Manager Sihpreck. of the Maroons will start Porter on Sunday and If he feels right willy aend h!m back Monday. There will be no changes made in the Maroon lineup for the two games, the same team will lineup against the Columbia A. C. as was used against the Scateca nine. These two games ivill probably settle the argument who !s the befft In West Hammond. There will be further information, concerning these g-ames in Saturday's Times.
I. H. NATIONALS WIN GAME The Harbor Nationals traveled to Whiting last Sunday and defeated the Dodgers of that city by a score of 9 to 4. The. Individual star was A. P.enson who got three double's and a triple out of five trips to the plate. The Nationals have a few open dates and would like to hear from any teim In Lake county averaging 16-21. For g-ames call Indiana Harbor 7275 any evening between 6 and 7 and ask for Tom.
