Crown Point News Happenings Of A Day In Lake County's Lively Capital.
Gustsv G. Schultz and Edwin Bethke. the bold bandits who robbed George Gord, the Scherervllle postmaster of $2,500 on April Sth, have asked for a change of venue, stating that they are of the opinion that they will not get a fsir and impartial trial before Judge Martin Smith on account of the prejudice against them in Lake county. A demurer was filed in the case of Ind. vs. August Neunfeldt by Attys. Htrehman and Llsius on Friday. The ca?e grew out of th state board of accounts refusing to O. K. a bill ot 9 1 1 g which had leen incurred by Mr. Neunfeldt who w;is at that time, during 1917 was superintendent of the county farm. He in company with Mrs. Neunfeldt, who was then matron of the county institution had made several trips to Indianapolis, Iaporte and Pittsburgh to attend meetings which tluy had been directed to attend by the stale board of charities, county commissioners and G v. Goodrich. Mr. Neunfeldt had presented his expense bill, which i a'l been O. K.'d by the commissioners but the state board ruled that the bill was not legal. Judge Norton denied the demurrer and the trial will be held the first week in September. Charles Williams, the Dyer young man who was sentenced to 2 to 1 years in the pen Itent la-y for robbing the American Railway Express Co. and then staging a hold-up has filed a motion through his Attorney A. Fred Henning of Indianapolis., came to Crown Point on Saturday to .jpend tiie week end with his mother and sisters. Chester Gray, chief engineer of the Indiana State Highway commission, and C. D. Franks, district engineer of the Portland Cement company, were in Lake county on Friday, Inspecting the state highway Jobs and Lincoln highway and were very well pleased with the progress being made with the work. The Federal Paving company estimates they will finish Linoin highway about Aug. 15. from Scherervllie to Wood's mill, about 11.4 miles. John Ward Wheeler of this city accompanied the officials on their tour of inspection in Lake county.
