REPLIES TO OBJECTION Ofl DUNES
CHICAGO. Jane 23 Replying to a rrotpst made by A. Knotts of Gary, afrahist the commonplace names Kivon topographic features of th" lunfs in northern Indiana. P. S. Goodman who mapped out the rrRion for K.tnd, MeXallj- & Co., and to whom the objection was directed, dcfriids his action In a communication to the Chicago Tribune. Mr. Goodman donirs that h? has abandoned the popular tiames given many foatures of the dune country and admonishes refldent! of Giry for their criticism as voiced in Mr. Knotts objections . QOOIIMAII'S LET TEH Mr. Goodman's communication to the newspaper follows: "Permit me to correct the Impression of Mr. Knotts protect that I have abandoned the popular names applied to many of the features of the dune country. Xo doubt there are many cherished names of hills, rldtres, marshes and swamp? that never became current jind ny suggestions of these nnmes, if historical or appropriate, will be used for the map is not published for profit but to help people to make th'r way through that delightful region. Editions are Issued in small circulation, and the second Is now in circulation. I tramped the dunes for twentyArwo years before undertaking to put its tangled topography its trails and approaches on a map; then only when I found none of the organ i7.attons were interested in fhis form of publicity. NAMED AITEB CXTTB MX MB EH 3 True, there are a number of places named after Prairie Club people. The members of this institution have been enthusiasts of the dunes for years. I have honored the ex-presidents of the organization, among them Jens Jensen and ThomM Adllnson, members of the dune conservation committm. There is a ridge named after President Gleason. of the same committee, hi is a member of the club. One Is named fn honor of General Leroy Pteward a veteran hiker of the country. I have honored Professors Coles and Pepoon. the eminent botanists, who have advertised tho flora of the dunes to the world, Kicharison. who has photographed the birds of the region. On the four mile of dune country owned by the "White and "Wells estate, I have tried to perpetuate the memory of my old friends. A. Stamford White and Thimas Wells, who loved their land so well and preserved it from marauder and vandals. ONE FOB OOT. Me CRAY "I note Mr. Kriotts' Inquiry as to who !s Field, that he should hav a dune named after him. He is the former president of tho old Knickerbocker Ice Company, whose 2.250 acres of dune land Is still held by its successor the Consumers Company. On tho property of the Indiana fltate-Prison board I have named a peak after Governor McCray, of Indiana. I confess to planing Diana's name on the map. but does not public Interest in Miss Gray justify it? "I regret that the people of Gary should be aroused over my map, and yet be Indifferent to the spoliation of that section of the dunes recently given them as a park by the steel company. Every Saturday evening when flowers are in bloom, the Gary and Chiepro trains ore boarded by excursionists at Miller station with their arms filled with the rapidly perishing flowers of that region. Soon they will be extinct. "The Tralrie Club and tho Friends of Our Native "Landscape are paying a forester to protect the Tremont region. Is that the reason that Mr. Knotts slams at the Prairie Club In his statement that they would seek to have its lease canceled?"

Reduce those Dangerous Swollen Veins Physicians are prescribing and hospitals are using a new and harmless yet very powerful germicide .-that not only causes enlarged or varicose veins and bunches to become normal, but also reduces goiter, enlargx-d glands and wens. Ask any first class druggist for an original two ounce bottle of Moone's Emerald Oil (full strength) and refuse to accept anything in its place. It is such a highly concentrated procuration that two ounces lasts a long time and furthermore if this wonderful discovery does not produce the results anticipated you can have the price refunded. It is r.ot wise for anyone to allow swollen veins to keep on enlarging Often they burt and cause weeks of pain, suffering ar.d loss of employment. Start the Emerald Oil treatment as directions advise and Improvement will begin at once. Generous sample on receipt of 15 cents, silver or stamps. International Laboratories. Rochester N. Y.
