The members of St. Mary's Catholic church enjoyed a picnic at the .Sch.dien woods on Monday. Dinner and supper was served on the grounds and the pickniokers put in a ery enjoyabie day. A barn on the Ben Pthwctiow farm south of town was burn'd on Tuesday evening between six and seven. The fire started from an unknown r.v.tae and the barn was burned to the ground. An automobile and farm implements were badly damaged. Miss L.!llian Gerloch who hns completed her school ear at Techney, 111., is visiting frienSs In town prior to her departure for loransn, Fla., to spend the summer with her parents.

GARY PASSES NEW BUILING ORDINACE Members of the Gary city council made their special., meeting short and snappy at the city hall chambers In Gary last night when the ordinance prohibiting- the construction of small store building. on the rear of lots in tli" first subdivision, went to its third reading and was passed by a unanimous vote. A motion was then made and immediately seconded to adjourn.

DIVORCE SUIT FILED BY LOVEJOY Gertrude I.ovejoy was made defendant in a suit for divorce filed by her husband. Edward J. IxveJoy, !n the Gary I,ake fjuperioj court. I.ovejoy charges his wife with cruel and inhuman treatment, and alleges !n h!fj complain that on divers and various occasions, she charged him with associating w it h le'.S women. FUNERAL OF MARTIN SCHWARTZ HELD YESTERDAY

At two o'clock yesterday, the funeral of Martin Schwartz, on of Gary's first citizens, took piace from his home at ?"l Fillmore street. Rev. v. G. feiman conducted the religious service. The Gary Masons and Knight? cf Pythias officiated at the funeral, and the pallbearers were all knights. The lodge members gathered at l:4.i o'clock at th chapel and in a body went to th grave in Oak Mill cemetery. In the cemetery a fhort service was read after 2 o'clock. In the death of Mr. Schwartz Gary loses on of its beet arid oMh citizens. Coming here wh'n the town was only a mass of sand dunes. Mr. Schwartz erected a small restaurant and by fair tactics in business soon made many friends. Fefore his death he was connected -with the Commercial hotel.

"n the complaint of Janet Neubiser, nine years of age, Cecil Masterson, an asleged moron, was boond over to the criminal court this morning after being given a hearing by Judge lvlotz on the charpe of asrault with attempt to iommit rape. Three years ago Matcrion fared Judge Klotz on the same charge, lie was found guilty and sentenced to serve in the navy. He lives at 1309 Myrtle live. Robertsdale. Yesterday afternoon Masterson took lfttle Janet out for a boat ride on r1T lake. The gfrl accompanied htm because he was an employ of her father, who runs a garage on Indianapolis boulevard, and she thought there could be no harm. The man made indecent advances, according to her lisping testimony and filled her mind with all sorts of vile things. lie threatened her repeatedly. Finally ridding herself of htm, Janet ran home a"hd tell her parents, who immediately swore out a warrant for Masterson' arrest. Masterson contends fhat he. said nothing to her. T5ri that the remarks were direced to a pair of oldr girls with whom he wa9 taiJting. He said that Janet overheard his remarks. He did not deny taking Tier out In the boat.
