From authentic information received by The Times thl emorning, the big ten Inch merchant mill No. 2 of the Gary Works of the Illinois Steel Co. whtth has ben shut down approximately six months, will resume operation. Just how large an order ha been received and how long the mill will continue to operate could not be learned. The 10-Inch merchant mill No. 1 le the largest, newest and mod modern mill in this part of the country. As a further indication of renewed activity In the Gary mills there sre indications that the axle mill will start up again probably some time net wej. This mill has been down approximately five morcths. The balanc of, the merchant mills and the wheel plant will no doubt continue on the same schedule heretofore, rolling a week or so and then shutting down again for about the same length of time. Aa the orders are received that warrant the operation of the differenvt mills, the mills are put In operation, the orders run off and then shut down again. With resuming operation in the 10lnch nvetrchant mill No. 2 the Blab and 60-inch mills wllla will shut down again for an Indefinite period. The 160 inch mill is still down with no prospects of an early start, it Is said.
