TIMES BUREAU AT STATE CAPITAL . IXDIAXAl'OLJrf, InU.. Juno 20. The announced determination of tha democratic party to conduct a campaign in U22 against the ccQtiauaacc of gov-t-rnmc-atal operations through state commissions in causing a fereat deal if auiustmcnt la political circles in tht; capital. Acting on a frovernment detention order, police of Hcboken recently seized 495 sub-machine puns, extra parts and ammunition found on board the S. S. Eastside just before' she cleared for Belfast via Norfolk. The seizure was due to a tip from the Irish office of the British government, according to the London Sketch. The guns are efficient weapon for street fighting ajnd are light and, easily handled or concealed.

,ia other states aa well as Indiana are r.on- rather unpopular. - The reason is perfectly apparent to :i:y person who has had any intimate dealings with tho functions of stato eovernment. Prices of utility products have increase! in proportion to rit costs of other basis commodities. -Kikicwlse the cost cf government has increased. Kates and taxes are high-i-r. In regard to these the public has .some definite organization to blame. -Wat in the case of other things which iv.-w cost more there is no central organization which can bo held accountable to the displeasure cf tha people. But while the Democrats are devlstivfr means of throwing dirt on the administration in power the leaders tn the Kepublican state organization are busy doping on the next nominee for Governor. In fact this subject seems T, be of more interest among state leaders at thi3 time that the senatorial race of next year. -To the vemins in politics It may peera rather unusual that gubernatorial timber Is thought of fo far ahead .if the next change in administration, but this fo.e?ightedness is made necessary by thi :rect primary law. Candidates for this highest office in the state realize that they must campaign, must bring themselves to the attention of the public for a period of yiyars if thty hope to win the noininat in. -Therefore five men arc now recog-ni-d oj likely candidates for governor threo years henos1. The friends "f . William G. Oliver, auditor of state, .'irV'are that he will he a candidate. ?Ir Oliver has said nothing to discourthe efforts of his friends In bocstic him for the- place Another mem)Str of the official family o: u-.rri,"! ilt Cray Is also regarded as a most hk' iy candidate. This is Georgetinnard. member of the public service '-.r.-.mii-sion. It is said that both Mr. tlivor and Mr. Barnari? are regarded i"trhly hy the governor and one or the '.'her of them will receivp his supfirt. According to this gossip If one (- th" other actually gets In ttvs race ,'.' other will retire. vFor some time it has been known thr.t Ed Jackson, Secrttaj-y cf the state "'M b' a cand'date for governor in JTr. Jackson never refuses to 'vik? an address in the state which

will bring him in closer touch -with the people. While it is too early to even dope on the relative strength of these men there are some Indications that Mr. Jackson will not be very favorably received by many of the Republican leaders. Among the other men whose name is persistently mentioned in connection with the race is that of E. M. Wasmuth, Republican Etate chairman. It is known that he would be greatly pleased to have this honor bestowed upon him. but it is very doubtful just whether Mr. Wasmuth would even consider making a race unless a more or less substantial part of the party called him to take up the standard. In the gossip in political haunts it Is asserted that Ed. Toner of Anderson will again go before the people seeking the nomination. Mr. Toner was very active during the last cession of the assembly in seeking to prevent to repeal of the direct primary for the nomination of the United States senator and governor. At that time It was rumored he intended to set k tho gubernatorial nomination. But underneath all these hopes and gossip there is a smoldering desire on the part of many Republicans In the capital that Will Hayes will come back to Indiana and run for Governor. Tet even those who express this hope declare that Mr. Hays will never do this. Nevertheless, the fact that the hopo is expressed shows the kindliness with which the little big man of Sullivan Is regarded. The recent re-organlration of the state board of agriculture Is only for a temporary period, according to reliable information. Governor McCray ha.s some definite plans are making this board over into a real agriculture body. One of the tilings the Governor is said to have in mind is the elimination of the office of financial secretary. It is believed that th secretary can

take over these duties since tha beard has passed into the absolute control of the state and much of the financial affairs will be conducted through the office of the auditor.
