ton to vi;.it with his father, representative Carl W. Reddick of Montana, formerly of Indiana, after getting a view from above of a score or states in 5.005 mile flight from Texas In his own airplane. lie was In the- air mail service, after learning to tly while in the army, and is known as a daredevil filer. Breezing into Chicago from Texas a few days go, ho found he had only J2 in his pocket and eight gallons of gasoline in the tank of liis air boat, a Standard, he bought at Dayton last year for $3,000. lie started out of Chicago on the limited supply of gas. The ga3 carried him only to Gary. Down he came, and as a means of getting more gas and a meal ticket he began a cutrate passenger business. Most fliers charge passengers $15 for a fifteen minute flight, but Kiddock cut price to $3.50. GETS PAY CT ADVA2TCE Klddiek found a passenger willing to pay in advance and make possible the purchase of gasciine. After giving this passenger liis moneys worth. Riddick turned his plane toward Washington. At Valparaiso. Ind.. his motor popped in a discouraged ft.shion and young Riddick knew it was again time to feed h's tank. And here he found a cus
tomer v.ilhm; to part with 5 to sec his own yard from "upstairs." Ha was out of Juice agln at lionroevllle. Ind.. so down he came after another passenger from whom he got money for a new supply of gas. In Ohio the "vagrant of the air" picked up more coin and plugged on toward Wheeling. W. Va. Darkness caught him as he was passing over the Allegheny mountains. But with Riddick luck, he found a mountain with a flat top and came down near Concord. Pa. Mountaineers marveled at his nerve. They liked his daring so much that one of them invited him to supper and provided him with a bed. The next morning he persuaded a mountaineer to take a night and touched him for a ?5. After collecting more loose change until he had $35 more than needed for gasoline. Riddick flew straight to Washington and picked out a convenient lot on Massachusetts avenue to come down. An astonished policeman thought he
must be a bootlegger when he saw the
wandering airman pull a puit case from the cockpit. Riddick invited a search, but the policeman accepted his word when told that ne had Just arrived from Texas and other places to visit his rep-resentative-father.
