An Announcement by The Studebaker Corporation of America
Eight months ago, when the costs of material and labor appeared to have reached their peak, we made substantial reductions in the prices of Studebaker cars. These reductions were in anticipation of our ability, after the turn of the year, to purchase materials and to fabricate them at lower costs. The expected savings have been realized. With them, other savings have been made, as a result of the greatly increased volume which Studebaker has this year enjoyed. During the first five months of 1921 our volume of business has exceeded that of any other automobile manufacturer except Ford. Hie Studebaker plants are running at capacity, with unfilled orders on hand for over 7,000 cars. In this quarter we shall produce 21,000 automobiles, against 1 1,000 in the corresponding period of last year. This is an increase of approximately 100'1. No other automobile manufacturer is making a comparable showing. We believe that the confidence of the buying public, which has made and is making this record possible, will continue, because it is supported by the quality and value of our products, and these we shall uphold. We expect that as a consequence the present economical and efficient production basis can be maintained and that we are justified in making further reductions in the prices of Studebaker cars.

The Marvel Tire Having Station, according to the Si-hroefler hoys, who are the proprietors, Is enjoying a phenomenal growth. Their process la entirely unlike the usual retreading method It i. a. patented pr "cess that takfs your old casings and makes a new tire therefrom, using a new- outer casing which U cured in a large ovrn, the entire Job being done at the Oakley avenueroom. The process is Enid to save auto owners at last fifty per cent, on tires, and guarantees a tlve thousand mileage. The Srabo Auto Sales Is a new ag. enry for Hammond and will henceforth exhibit the TlupmoMle and Chevrolet at f39 South Hohman street, the room formerly occurifi by the, Stern Tire .'nd Kubber Company. " Mr. Szabo Is also proprietor of the East Chicago Auto Sales and is widely known over the county, as an automobile man of thorough business experience. There are quite a few still alive who are looking on the bright side of things and among thete Is P.. L.. Hutchinson, of the Calumet Avenue Garage. Mr. Hutchinson has this to pay: "Our business is normal and we say this conservatively. Today we are doing the largest pneumatic tire business in the history of this concern. Hutchinson usually wears a smile that covers the length and breadth of his countenance. One of the most striking facts recently been brought out is that of the sales record of the Studebaker Corporal Ion. This product is now second In line with Ford, in production, and no let-up In sight. There must be something to the slogan "This is Studebaker year." W. A. Toung who is th big spirit heihind the Hudson Indemnity Company believes ho has a fine proposition in automobile insurance. '"Thero are two outstanding features about the Hudson auto insurance,-' says Mr. Toung. "and they are .liberality in allowance and promptness in adjustment. Mr. Toung in a short time ha3 become a very prominent figure in the insurance end of the automobile business in Lake county. Who would b bold enough to make such claims about tha average run of tires, but Tom Jordan of the Jordan Tire and Repair Shop comes out with the remarkable statement that blowouts and stone bruises ore rractlcally unknown In the Carlisle tires, a new product he has taken on, and about which he displays noticeable enthusiasm. Beln' as its you. Thomas, we'll pass your statement on to the dear reader for what it is worth. They know you better than we do. A. F. Adelsperger, the P.eo and Gardner distributor, is a happy man this year. He has been able to make very prompt deliveries on cars, a thing he has not been able to do In times past, owing to demand being ahead of production. Nothing causes a good man to smile more generously than the fact
that he is in a position to give service and GIVES it. The automobile situation In Hammond is not half bad. Summing up the upa and downs, business is good, considering the time of the year and th-s condition of the times. Most of tho manufacturers have cut all they Intend to cut and with wages in the auto industry practically re-adjusted, the track seems to be clear for a clean run. There will be little waiting and putting off on the part cf those who are prospects, from now on. There is no economy in waiting when a need exists. Another good piece of news arrhes. Tho Paige people have announced a new price level for all Paige models. "It is the best news we have received in months." ftaites Mr. 0"Nell. the Paige distributor, and will furnish an added impetus to the already big demand for Taige cars.

in town, at a price that will seem al- ' most unbelievable. If you want some- j thing classy at a bargain, Leo has the "goods." j Some of these days Bill Hastings j will take a notion to land on automo- j bile factory for Hammond and DO it. j Ha got us a soup factory, why not an j auto factory? Important new s arrives this morn- j tng to the effect that Podge Brothers Motor Cars have been substantially re- I tluceci. "What do you think about the I Dodge Brothers reduction "was a ejui- j ticn put to evcral business mn. . ! majority said in substance: "It is a j
handwriting on the wall, of a speedy
return to grcatcp prosperity."
The J5.H1.500 thus far received ra registration fees, under the automobile j tax. in New Tork, for the first three !
months of 1321, has been greater than that fcr the entire year of 1820. Approximately 1200 American motor vehicles valued at $1. 440, 000, have accumulated on the wharves. In warehouses and in lots at Buenos Aires, because of the general freight congestion there. In recognition of the achievements of the heroes of the World War. a new coast-to-coat paved highway, "known as the "Victory Highway," has been launched in Topeka, Kansas. Boston has the distinction of having the first garage for the storage and repair of automobiles, which was opened in the spring of 1SS?. Motor trucks are now displacing the mules and carts for heavy hauling in Jamaica. Becaues strawberries are bringing $10 a crate n'ong the eastern shore or Maryland and the Virginia section, ne-
