George Harvey, American ambassador to London that the present administration "cannot" without betrayal of Its masters and creators and "will not have anything whatsoever to do with the league of nations or with any commission or committee responsible to It, directly or indirectly, openly or furtively." Harvty's positive statement regarding the attitude of the "present American government" toward the league of nations was construed by republican and democratic senators alike, Irrespective of their Versailles treaty "lews, as Indicating It has been deliberately made with the knowledge end consent of the president.
