Slay Is fast going. This May has been May. at times June, and It has g'ven us nights and early mornings that smacked of March froM's ond tto need of fires. Perhaps it was a chilly May morning that ln,p:rv.l Jamcj Whitcomb Riley to write: -Breath of morning breath of May With your gist of yesterday And crisp, balmy freshness, smites Our old hearts with youth's delight." This month's Issue of Current History has an article on "The Fato of Prohibition In Russia." "Why go as far as Russia to mourn the fate of prohibition? Sanguine days In the country. More or less of a furry has been raused among the scientific steel men because of the report of the French Invention for the direct manufacture of steel. Is there being blazed a new trail for more advanced methods of the t.eel manufacture? A wireless says :hat the Paris Matin printed a report sf M. Basset's claim of making steel lirect from the ore, permitting the use 3f French low-grada coal and eliminiting the necessity of Importing coke. s a matter of fact, one operation steel svas produced In India centuries ago; the question Is whether successfully small production can be developed to tho point where It Is commercially economical and without waste. If that Sevelopment is attained it may not necessarily mean Junketing tho imposing array of coke ovens and the blast furnaces at Gary and Indiana Harbor, but will new steel centers arise elsewhere? It is said that Sinclair Lewis' "Main 5treet" la to be presented as a play ihla fall. The book Is called successful oecause some ISO, 000 copies liav been old. Tet General Lew "Wallace's beautiful novel "Ben Hur" attained a sale if more than 3,000,000. This suggests whether any book printed today could lell like "Ben Hur." Remember, the Mge of Crawfordsville's book was R-rltten more than 40 years ago, and It rlelighted e wholq .generation. But :he generation that absorbed tho beauy of "Ben Hur" had time to read '.here were no movies, no automobiles :o distract. So the Sinclair Oil people have struck raa on their concession In Costa Rica. S'ot so long ago the company obtained in interest in Angola, in Africa. Every time cna passes the "Whiting and East Chicago refineries end thinks of them tnd their ramifications it reriulres an ttlas to trace the places n the world 'rom whence their oil is sought. Brains, not equipment, make a raiload. That is what a big railway maglate testified to before the Interstate "ommerce Commission hearing in Chi:ago. Says His Prescription Has Powerful Influence Over Rheumatism
Mr. James H. Allen suffered for years with iheumatism. Many times this terrible disease left him helpless and unable to work. He finally decided, after years of ceaseless study, that no one can be free from rheumatism until the accumulates Impurities, commonly called uric acid deposits, were dissolved In the Joints and muscles and expelled from the body. With this idea in mind he consulted physicians, made experiments and finally compounded a prescription that quickly and completely banished every sign and symptom of rheumatism from his system. He freely gave his discovery to others who took it with what might be called marvelous success. After years of urging he decided to let sufferers everywhere know ab'jut his discovery through the newspapers. Wels Dru; fV. has b-'-en appointed neent for Al!nrhu In this vicinity with the understanding that he will freely return tho purchase money on the first two bottles to all who state they received no benefit.
