EX-WHITING COP ALLEGED HOLDUP J ohn Connolly Accused in Whiting Police Court With M. Dunbar WHITIVO. Ind., May 1 2.-John Connelly, until thi week removed, a member of the Wihtting; police force, and Maxin Dunbar, alias Dalton, appeared in the Whiting city court to answer to the chara-e of highway robbery, bvnneily and Dalton, both residents of StieirUti Park, had a;one to the Standard Oil camp where as the story Koea they attempted to hold up Nick Tiolha about midnight. Connelly helJ the gun up to Dolha and In the scuffle which ensued th revolver went off shooting rolha through the forearm. He knocked the gun from Connolly's hand end then picked it up and started to j?hoot, firing three shots at the would-be highwaymen, all of w hie however, missed them. When the gun was seen In the victims hands Connelly and Dunbar both made hasty retreat. The affair was at once reported al the Wiitin? police station and as soon, as the revolver was seen it was recognized as Connelly's. Sergeant Muilaney went to the Connelly home about 1 a. ni. and found him to be In bed. He was brought to the station and locked up. Dunbar ,later fceing arretted by Officers Parker and Kilcuilen. Connelly has been on the poUce force only a few months, he replacing Officer Satterfield, who resiarneJ. He Is married having three children. Dunbar Is single, and both men evidently were not in an altogether responsible condition, this happening on Con-, nelly's day ofT. At the trial both men were bonded over to the criminal court on 12.000 bond, upon the furnishing of which buth were released.

Stanton who Is manager of the Rlalto Musical Comedy Company will entertain a number of 141st artillery men at a performance of "The Sunshine Girl" this evening at th Orpheum and at a fish dinner later. Stanton met an old artillery pal on the street the other day and the two found a third. They were together at Camp Da Coetqutdan. Franca, where Stanton organized a glee chib and made a tour of twenty-one days for the Red Cross and the "V". Stanton has programs and stories In The Stars and Stripes and the regimental paper. The Salva. to show for the endeavor. The glee club gave five performances in a "V hut on ChTistmas Day, 1919. Also at Camp De. Sooge.

Woman Acquitted of Starving Husband HETtKIMEK, N. T.. May 13. Mrs. Jennie Werner was today acquitted of fompllcity in the murder of her husband. Henry Werner, near Illon, T T. on the night of Feb. 21. The jury returned its verdict after having been out more than 12 hours. Mrs. Werner w-ept with Joy when the foreman of the jury read the verdict. She was charged with being an accomplice of R-itger B. Werder, -who was recently found guilty- of first degree murder for the death of Henry Werner.
