TEN DIPHTHERIA CASES IN GARY Ten cases . of diptherla have been reported to the Gary health department in the past two weeks. Two new cases were reported yesterday, one at the home of Eunice Dunn, 831 Madison street, and Jerome Soloman, 1370 Roosevelt street. This type of dlptheria Is known as the "carrier" kind and is very easily communicated from one person to another. All the ten homes have been put under a strict .Quarantine, and everything is being dona to check the disease.
Sells Automobile Before He Owns It John Malan filed an affidavit against Harry Warner in tha city court of Gary. John charges that Warner sold him an automobile and represented that tha full amount had been paid and no money was owing on the car. Now. Qua F. Claueoen and Roland Kenny have filed suit against Malan to recover the car and $300 damages. It la understood that before Warner disposed of the car, ha had signed a note for $200 and the cr was not his property until he had paid this note. Instead of paying the $200, Warner sold the car to Malan. The car la a Checrolet sedan.

GARY STEEL WORKER DIES OF BURNS Coroner B. E." Evans of Gary yesterday conducted the Inquest into the death of Walter Pelenak open hearth worker at the Gary works, who died of burns received while at work. The details of the accident was not learned.

Hammond will hoar the naturalization examinations Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Any man who has served in the army ma obtain hia second papers at Hammond, no matter what town or state he may be from. Men desiring to vote In the coming election, must file for citizenship on or before June 13. at which time they will -have had their first papers for two years.

Legal Pay Which May Be Allowed is Set Out in Letter by Examiner INDIANAPOLIS, May.. 12 Jesse D. Eschbaoh, chief examiner of the state board of accounts, addressed a letter to city clerks and controllers yesterday setting out the legal per diem which may be allowed election officials taking part in the recent primary election. "Each inspector. Judge, clerk end sheriff of the primary election is entitled to an allowance of $3 for services performed prior to midnight of eleotion day," said Mr. Eschbaoh. "Each of 8-uoh officers, for services performed after midnight of said day, is entitled to an additional per diem of $3. nXTITLKX. TO DAY'S WAGES "Each inspector of the primary election is entitled to one day's wages for going to the clerk's office to reoeive ballots and election supplies, provided he did this prior to election day. "No double per diem is permissible and no mileage should "be allowed the inspector. "The compensation of the two appointive members of the board of election commissioners shall be fixed by the city council and paid out of the city treasury. The amount paid should be reasonable."
