NOMINATE DAN BROWN FOR MAYOR ON THE REPUBLICAN TICKET ' He Deserves the Support of All Good Citizens for the Following Reasons

Personally Clean Progressive Parks Improved

Fi

nances

Citv Schools

City Is Decent

Blue Laws

Coal Situation Flu Epidemic Public Utilities

Not Controlled

DAN BROWN has been a clean, decent, law-abiding, self-respecting, impartial, fair, progressive MAYOR. Dan Brown's administration has been progressive. In the face of war conditions, streets were made passable. Comprehensive plans for the solution of the water question are completed and work will progress this summer; the sewage problems have been worked out, and 33 soon as the price of materials is reduced, contracts will be let for the extensions of these improvements. Dan Brown has recognized the fact that Hammond's pre-eminence as a reidential city must continue. Maywood Park has been improved; Harrison Park kept up and much done for other beauty spots. In a period when the cost of government, city, state and nation, has mounted to alarming proportions, Hammond, under Dan Brown, has met the problems of increased costs successfully. His conduct of citv finances has been pointeci to bv neighboring cities as an example of what can be done. THE CITY HAS LIVED WITHIN ITS MEANS. AVhen Dan Brown's administration took over the affairs of the school city, men of capacity and ability were appointed. The result was that the gigantic task of re habilitating the schools was undertaken. In the ten years previous to the Brown administration, but two schools had been built, although the school population had increased 80 per cent in that period. The schools now are well organized and plans under way will provide adequate facilities. While other cities have contended with crime waves, open gambling, protected prostitution, police inefficiency, and all the grafting and train of evils resulting from political exploitation, Hammond remains quiet, decent and clean. Had things been otherwise. Brown would have been blamed. Will you give him the credit now? Mayor Brown has sought to have Hammond an orderly and well regulated city, but "Blue Law" rule has never even had consideration by him. However, the people of Hammond can ret assuied, as in the past, that there will be no wide open city. A respect for the law and protection of the good name of the community and the rights of its citizens has ben the Mayor's constant aim. Coal shortages during Brown's administration were met squarely. To prevent suffering and unfair distribution, he purchased coal from the Erie Ruhrud and had it properly apportioned where it was needed most, until our local yards could replenish their supply. When the Flu epidemic was raging the world over. Mayor Brown, in order to give relief and assistance wherever possible, was on the job day and night with a corps of doctors and nurses. Under Dan Brown's administration, war conditions and constantly rising costs of materials and labor have resulted in a number of awards by the Public Service Commission of increased rats to public utilities. This has been true in every city in the county. The City was always adequately represented by its legal department at every hearing before this Commission. The present administration has contested every application for advanced rates with every resource at its command. NO ONE COULD HAVE DONE MORE. Dan Brown has NOT been a controlled Mayor. No special interests have dominated his administration. He has been dictated to by no one. Fair, impartial treatment have been accorded to everybody. He has truly represented the interests of the whole people.
