NEVA WELTY IS ARRESTED If! GARY Young Woman Wanted on an Embezzlement Indictment INDIANAPOLIS. Ind.. March "4. Neva "Welty. age twenty-six years, whcso home is said to be in Young- America, was arrested Tuesday at Gary and will bo returned to Indianapolis to answer to a grand jury indictment charging: her with embezzling $500 from the American Murisge Cuinpany, 202 Security Trust building, 5 East Market street. The young woman, tt is charged, went to an Ohio city, while working: for one of the company's stock salesmen, and representing herself as ecretary of the company, collected $500 from a client there She was traced to several cities in the west and recently was found in Gary, the, detectives said.

CHURCH FOR PAY Vincent Chlabat has llled a com-

plallnt In the Ciary Lake superior court that the Christ Episcopal church of Tolleston Is Indebted to him in the

sum of $5,050 on account of work and labor performed on the church in August, 1!19. The Manhattan lumber company have not yet been paid for

lumber furnished and is a party in

the suit.

The church was completed late In

1919, and the original coat- was $6,500.

court awarded Sykes a Judgment of

$1,300. Sykes" truck waa struck by a Michigan Central train on South Broadway at the Michigan Central cut off.

This is the second time this case has been tried. The first time It was tried the jury was out all nljrht. and a verdict could not be reached. The last trial was chiefly for the purpose of de-ttrminlng-the cause of the accident.

MURDER TRIAL AT THE HUB

FSrECIAL TO THE TIMES) CKOWS POINT. Ind., March -4. The trial of Fedro Acevts of Indiana Harbor for the murder of Joe Gunsalas a 15 year old boy was heard before Judge Martin Smith on Tuesday. Acevis was drunk at the time the murder was committed. lie had piven Gunsalas $40 of his money to keep for him, on one occasion Acevis asked for $10 and Gunsalas give him only $5.0 and he pulled out his gun and shot

Tom Knott's Condition is Termed Critical Thomas K. Knotts, first mayor of Gary, who underwent an operation at the Mayo brothers hospital at Rochester. Minn., on Monday of th week is reported In a critical condition and according to late reports today his condition is weaker. Yesterday wa sthe third day after the operation and having passed this crisis, some hope is held out today that he may pull through.

From reports they are having a hard time in finding a candidate who will make the race on the democratic ticket and It may come to pass that they will have to resort to conscription when It comes to making up a primary ticket. Harry Arnold, prominent Gary banker, may accept th nomination, it was reported today.
